NS v.2 18" with 9.25" Spider

Recommended Posts

The NS v.2 line has a very long 3" coil -- 71mm winding length, which is nearly 3" of wire.

This results in 27mm of linear travel and the coil can't leave the gap until 55.5mm -- which is impossible as it will bottom out at 44.5mm; which takes a CRAP LOAD of power to reach.

I like the nut basket spacers ;) Drilling holes in top plate not so much.

Looks pretty damn mean otherwise.

I added those as some customer don't want frame venting for depth and/or other reasons (either no nuts on the 18" or requesting 4-spokes and no spacers on smaller units) -- so we can still get some air in there :drink40:

Motor force factory wasn't really affected in reality as it met simulations so I was pleased in that regard.

For reference -- this is the stock spider on the upcoming Z v.3 line of woofers... a couple sizes due in the summer (likely 15s and 18s).

The 10 and 12 have a similar unit for the 7" landing so we have more room for the cone to move around with rubbing the spiders -- despite the small diameter it has large rolls to allow a good bit of throw.

The 15 inch model sits on the 8" landing and allows even more throw.

Finally the 18 inch has the larger landing so we used it -- this spider can top 40mm one-way throw so really lets the 18s get down :clapping:

I decided to use it to re-build this NS v.2 for a local customer as he is tuned super low and has a 3500D on the sub so the more throw the better!

looks like i need to find some some NS v2's

he wouldnt be the first to say they did a 167 with a system like that (one that clearly DOESNT), but i have to say, he didnt beat me anywhere, ive never competed against the guy. If he thinks his does a 167, mine would probably put him in a coma. :hairtrick:

what does the former cap due that the dustcap alone wont do? just more pressure for cooling?

if u just have the dustcap theres a decent amount of volume below it, shrink that space and u improve the cooling

is my guess, lol

mmmm 44mm

The place I used to work at, in the early 2000s we had problems with domes popping off, but we started to put little 4" sub domes before the main dome. That dome was super hard resined paper, epoxy the crap out of it, and then put a decent poly dome above that, like a 6"+ and that regulated the pressure between the domes, and dome popping was 100% eliminated

Doing the former cap as he said, does help with something else though, thats for Jacob to explain though ;)

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
