For the lt1 just do some H/C/I/E and be good (heads/cam/intake/exhaust). Should open it up pretty good, and you don't need any forced induction to make it quick, I don't know why everyone jumps straight to that everytime someone posts up how to make something quicker, especially since it's the most expensive way to go and a lot more work is involved than people think. With those things I listed you should be able to do 11's with a proper tune and good run. That should be plenty quick for a 16 year old, don't overdue it though and think you can handle more power then you really can..

Would need drag radials or slicks to run that number.

And I didn't jump to forced induction, just stated what and how much it cost.

H/C/I is definitely a good way to bring out more power on a lT1. Backed with a goood tune. A tune could make or break you.

How many miles is on the car? Cause if its getting on up there, it wouldn't hurt to start fresh if your going to spend 2-3k on mods. A lot of chevy people love 383s, and will really rock, if its fully built.

wow how many times did i say that and you argued with me he would not gain much from it and then someone else says it and you agree with him......

and not disagreeing with you on the mileage and a good freshening up would help and a 383 would be bad ass but thats about $2500 if your willing to spend it and the motor will be more reliable to with the extra power from tuning and other mods. it would handle it better. and if your very serious about it, have the motor built with the intentions of doing a supercharger or pro charger and have it built for it and in a couple years do it. just a suggestion if your willing to spend that much. but if not like they said before a cam, intake, exhaust, and a chip that can be tuned will be plenty.. and you do not need to have drag radials or slicks to run an 11 in the quarter mile lol

BUT don't listen to everyone who says to "be happy with what you got" that's stupid. No one does that. That's like, they should all stop working on audio systems and "be happy with what they have" no more upgrades. Just because your sixteen doesn't mean you can't tune a car. as for performance, cam, intake, exhaust, chip... really, that's the best way to start and the cheapest. I agree with starting there, but there's is no reason not to supercharge it, or turbo charge it. Procharger WILL either have, or make you a bolt on kit, the hardest part will be the fuel pump/fuel injector upgrade. I'd run low boost if the engine is old, or better yet, have an experienced mechanic give it a once over and see if it's healthy enough for boosted activity :P ha get it? like viagra... nvrmind lol

Wow,

Where to start.

First you need to come up with a budget. I have seen close to 400 rwhp with a "Good" set of heads, cam, ported intake, Long Tubes, and Tune. It is a little harder to find support for the LT1 due to the strength and popularity of the LS1. If money is not an issue I would tell you to swap in an LS1/LS6 Long block and PCM/Wiring Harness. The LSX motors not only offer more hp for the modifications. The fuel economy of these engines are outstanding when using a stock camshaft. At 65 mph I see close to 30 mpg in my ZO6. You might want to sign up on LS1Tech.com. Even though it is a forum dedicated to the LSX motors you will find a lot of knowledgable people with LT1 experience.

Hope this helps.

FYI.

A stock LT1 C4 Vette makes right around 220 to 230 rwhp.

A stock LS1 C5 Vette makes 295 to 305 rwhp.

A stock LS6 C5ZO6 Vette makes 360 rwhp.

LS2-350rwhp LS3-380rwhp LS7-440rwhp. All in 100% stock form and stock tune.

LSX motors respond extremely well to just a cam with proper tuning. The reason is the cylinder heads flow like sewer drains out of the box.

Warm Regards,

Dyno Brian

I didn't have he needed them but I don't think a H/C/I tuned lt1 will run 11s on street tires.

All I said, was if the motor had plenty of miles on it, why not freshing it up? instead of adding all these parts to lead to a rebuild not long after? A lot more benefits than just more cubic inches, could change the compression to increase the power that the H/C/I make. Also, better pistons that allow bigger cams to be run, and could in return more power.

I didn't say he needed to do it without reasoning.

Your just looking to argue over nothing. Nit picking to find every little detail to call me out on.

I'm trying to state all options, just not what I think. Want to make sure he considers everything, so he doesn't make mistakes and have regrets.

i do have to agree with a lot of the guys on here. ur friggin 16 and u got a vette. dude be happy with what power u got! it damn sure beats the hell out of driving a civic or sum shit for ur 1st ride. im not puttin u down or anything but learn how to drive it for a couple years then put some power to it. hell by then u mite have enough money saved up to do sumthin serious with it

thats the thing with us humans were never satisfied if we dont have nothing we want something once we have something we want more it never ends we should really look at what we got and appreciate it

thats what i said save up for an LS swap and invest on that instead but everyone ignored me lol

As said by Mobile Chassis Dyno, check out LS1tech. They're an LSx based site but have a section for LT1/4 motors and very knowledgable. And yes swapping in an ls engine would be ideal but it seems like everyone does it (maybe I'm on ls1tech too much and that's why) so I'd just stick with what you got for now and if you really want more power after what I said, I'd just sell it and upgrade to a 98-02 camaro or trans am, or 05-06 GTO if you got the cash, but then you're up there with the price of ls1 vettes.
