  1. ^^^Good to hear. Could you feel the suspension being any looser after you played some songs on them?
  2. Really? I'm surprised you actually know how stiff that is I've never actually pushed in on the cone of one of the 1508's, but have heard a setup with 4 of them that does a 148 legal in a Navigator with 2 Lanzar 1400d's. For an 8" woofer it is in a class of it's own.
  3. Please don't buy the JL ho box. It is okay but not worth all the money they charge for it. The W7 is a decent woofer but I have a hard time believing that a single 12 and 2K watts in that box could do a 150 on the dash. It may do a 150 in the kick with the door open, but no way on the dash sealed in a JL prefab with 2K watts. I could see that woofer and 2K watts doing a 150 in a custom ported box on a burp. I don't know the car that well, but from seeing them in person and also seeing the size box that Rob has in his car I'm sure you could fit 15's if you really wanted them, but it would be a better idea to run 10's or 12's. That way you aren't trying to fit bigger than you can and have no room for the enclosure to breathe. I had an issue like that in my ZX3 where a single 15 was louder than 2 cause the box was blocking the pressure from getting to the front of the car.
  4. I bet you max that epic 160 out on a daily basis huh? You probably had an epic 150 and had to get rid of it cause it said max all the time I guess you are bout it then. Someone who rides around on a daily basis with a spl meter built into their dash is definately bout it
  5. Whatever then Nate, you ain't bout it It's cool to drive around all the time with the volume knob turned to the right as far as you can. Shit I break that bitch off in my car so as soon as I turn the key I get a new hair style lol.
  6. Your right not every company does break in their subs. It is important and should be done if you want to prolong the life of your woofers. I've never personally done it with the Nightshades cause I already told you that they do it some, but also I don't blast on them full tilt except once in a while. So they have time to break in by themselves before I go to a comp and beat them like they stole something. Like I said hook them up free air and play a 20hz tone on them at about 1/4 to 1/3 of your listening volume. They will handle the power just fine and will loosen up quicker that way then driving around listening to music with them in a box. Just make sure you don't bottom out the sub. I'm sure those AQ's can handle as much as a NS so I think you'll be just fine doing that. Don't blame me though if you turn it up too much and bottom it out cause I warned you about it.
  7. Actually breaking in a subwoofer you are supposed to play low freq's to loosen up the suspension. A lot of Db Drag guys that I know use 20hz tones at low volume to loosen the suspension on their comp subs. Just make sure you keep the volume much lower than you would listening to it to start out with. Oh yeah they also play the subs free air too. It will allow the suspension to move more than it would putting it in an enclosure. I'm not bullshitting you here at all cause I know it may sound crazy, but every Nightshade that Jacob and Brandon build is tested free air with a Sundown 1500d on it with almost full power before they let it ship to the customer.
  8. Your welcome. I used to get that all the time when I was installing for a living. I would get cars back that the guy would tell me that the amp would cut off at high volume but not low volume. I would check voltage up front first and if it was above 13 with the car on then I would go to the amp. I would check voltage there and 99% of the time it would be below 10 volts. Then it was on to the ground to see what the issue was. A lot of the time it would be some dumb ass using self tapping screws to ground right to the sheet metal and if you install for a living you know that's not what you want to see. Most of the time if I could reach a bolt I would just reground it, but if the wire was not long enough I would sell them some more ground wire and make money on labor and product. Unless it was my shop that made the mistake, but we were told that if we ever grounded with self tappers we would be responsible for any extra charges to the customer out of our pockets. Glad you figured it out man!!!!!!!
  9. On top of what James said Sundown uses better quality components inside their amps. Also you are talking Chineese made amps(Hifonics) vs. Korean made Xenon amps(Sundown), and if you know anything about where amps are made you know the Korean made amps are some of the best most reliable amps in the world today. Also James mentioned the waranty and I'll elaborate on it a bit. With the saz line of amps if anything goes wrong with it at all and it's still under waranty you only pay $50 to get a brand new amp. You are not paying to get it fixed, you are sent a brand new unit. Also the customer service is the model for the rest to follow out there in the market. Hifonics has decent customer serivce but they are not on the same level as Sundown's loyality to their customers.
  10. I would do that trade. Probably because I'm more of a fan of spl and loud bass in general. I haven't ever heard either of these subs in a sq install, but have heard both of them in spl installs. One was Carlton Price's Ranger with 6 of the 12's. It did sound pretty good, but I have to agree with James and CC that the Kicker subs don't have a lick of sq to offer. The setup I heard the X 18's in was Steve Mick's Astro van. Not really any sq at 160db on music, but I was still impressed with the bass output. I really think once you get over 145db sq goes out the window anyway unless you have a super clean amp that can make tons of power with almost no thd. Something like maybe the Rockford T15K on a bunch of LMS Ultra's could possibly have sq at 150+db, but that's not in most people's reach for a setup.
  11. I would try and use a hook shaped pick tool to attempt to latch on to the wire and pull it out. I'm sure that Rob will be able to help you when he does the recone. That man has reconed more woofers than AQ themselves That dude blows shit up like it's his job and I'm sure that has happend to him at some time or another.
  12. I got a Fi X 12 for my wife's car and that's pretty much it. I went on a shopping spree when the government gave us a $8000 check for buying a new home back in May. Actually we only spent $2500 and then put the rest in the savings account. I'm glad that's the way we did it cause times are still pretty tough and my job fucking sucks huge donkey cock
  13. Run a multicell batt under the hood with two alts and you'll be fine. You can get a Battcap 8400 that would be equilivent to a pair of D3100's or get a CS9000. The CS9000 is a Cactus Sounds battery and is probably the baddest on planet earth of it's kind. They were used in most of the Street Max vehicles in DB Drag when multi's were allowed to be used. That would be a battey I would still run in NSPL since it's completely legal for me to do so. If I were wealthy that is. They cost around 2 grand brand new and finding them used is a bit of a chore. The Battcaps are easier to come by and are almost as good of a battery.
  14. This is the motherfucker you want to listen to. Rob more than likely has the loudest trunk GP in the world. Dude is a bit crazy, but when you are trying to break a 155 out of the trunk with a pair of 10's and 15K watts you ain't right in the head
  15. Well lucky for you my wife had a 1996 contour and is the exact same thing. What seemed to work well was the woofer firing foward and the port to the driver's side on the side of the enclosure. I cut all the plastic pannel that is on the back wall of the trunk mounted to the rear seats. It helped to get some of the sound into the vehicle but it pretty much sucks since the seats don't fold down at all. You might be able to try cutting the rear deck out some to port it there. I think that would work but it is going to be trial and error. I can tell you to tune around 37 in that car and you'll be good. While I never metered the car I did have a box in there tuned to 36 and it did great for her.
  16. You'll know when we post test results of it in my car Seriously though I'm pretty sure Jake is gonna let me try the V2, but I won't be the first one to use it. I'm sure it will be tested in the magic box first, but then it will go right into the ZX3
  17. I got my tracking number the Monday after the sale. I figured it would be at least that long since I wasn't expecting them to ship on Saturday. My sub will be here on the 10th and then the wife's car will be rocking. No more RF P1 12 for here anymore, she's going X, lol. Thanks Fi!!!!!!
  18. I run 2 Sundown 2000d's in my car for daily and burps. Daily I run them each at .5 ohms. My electrical consists of a Deka G34 up front, 2 XS Power D 3100's in the spare tire well, 3 runs of 0 guage from the + to the rear, big 3 done in 0 up front, and a 260 amp Iraggi alt. The setup doesn't drop below 13 volts full tilt. I am getting ready to run a set of 0 guage wires to the back from the same place where the alt is grounded up front. That should help me gain a few tenths spl and voltage wise since there is some drop. For spl I run the same amps strapped at .5 ohms, so each amp see's .25 ohms. They will protect unless you roll the volume up gradualy. The electrical is the same as the daily electrical. I do not drop below 13.3 on a full tilt burp. I haven't clamped the amps since I added the new alt to the car but when I had the stock and the voltage dropped to 11.8 on a full tilt burp I made just over 5200 watts. I would say I'm much closer to 6K watts now. I hope this helps you out some.
  19. For daily I tune all my boxes for my own vehicle to 37hz. It's not too low and not too high. It will play 30hz no problem as well as 50hz with ease. Everything from The Dave Matthews Band to E-40 sounds good and can be played loud on my box in my car. The rolloff is pretty nice too. I've only tested it on burps and the peak note for my daily box is 43hz and will do a 151.9 there. I haven't tested the rolloff since I've made upgrades but when it did a 151.3 at 43hz it would do a 150.2 at 35hz and even a 149.7 at 30hz as well as a 149.8 at 47hz and still put up a 149.0 at 50hz. It also helps to know the resonant freq of your vehicle so you can tune around that. You can still get very loud tuning away from the resonant freq but it takes more work. In my case the resonant freq of my ZX3 is 52hz and I tune to 37hz. While I can do a 151.9 with a box that is tuned to 37hz peaking at 43hz I have my spl box that is tuned to 46hz peaking at 52hz and does a bit over a 153. I am getting an increase due to the cabin gain. May I ask what kind of vehicle is it? That would honestly help me to tell you where would be a good place to start for tuning that will give you some cabin gain. Unless your only interested in playing super low freq's like some people then it's not a good idea to tune around your resonant freq cause it will more than likely be too high unless you have a large suv.
  20. It depends on which coil you have. The ones in my Nightshades are 50mm coils but there were also other different sizes. Iirc there were 42mm, 50mm, and 56mm length coils that were used in the Nightshades. The 46mm coil was in the origional and was the loudest of the 3, the 56mm coil was the long coil option that Jake was offering, and the 50mm coils are the newest that have the vents in them. Only a select few have the vented 50mm coils since the Nightshade is no longer in production.
  21. If the battery voltage is 14.5 on each side of the fuse then there is pretty much no way that the fuse is blown. The batts in the back wouldn't show 14.5 volts if they weren't connected to the front charging off the alt. You can pretty much rule out a blown fuse.
  22. Check your grounds and connections into your amp. I will almost bet that you either have a ground that has come or is coming loose or your ground is coming out of the amp's terminal. I doubt anything is wrong with your power wire at all. This sounds like a ground issue.
  23. Congrats man! It will pay off for you in the long run for sure. Just stick with it and don't let yourself get distracted too much.
  24. Also the guys that said they had their alts installed for 20 and 70 never said that Iraggi did the install. They just said that they were running his alts is all.
  25. Nice scores. What size alt/alts are you planning on running?
