  1. that GM samll block has so many options out there to make it more power full it's really hard to tell you what I would do first. I would say make sure the thing is sound before you get too deep into the wallet. If you have any doubt take it to a good mechanic that knows that engine first to do a full on diagnostic. If not then you risk spending money on the go fast goodies then having to start on square one.
  2. if all you are going to use it for is some patch panels you will be fine. I had mine for years, just gave it away to a homie who fixed a guys muffler, did some body work and such...
  3. one thing I forgot, IT IS ALWAYS LIVE! The tip is ALWAYS on, meaning it has electricity going to it the WHOLE time it is switched on. If your piece is grounded and the switch is on it WILL arc without the trigger being pulled.
  4. I had a Harbor Freight welder for a few years and it did body panels just fine. The flux is what shields the molten metal from oxygen. With MIG (GMAW) an inert gas does this. Gasless welding creates a good bit of spatter but is pretty easy to clean up with a flap wheel. That welder will also be good for welding exhaust. I made a "test pipe" for my Toyota with the little welder. It has a shit duty cycle, meaning it won't run much of a bead for very long but it will stitch weld (also not for very long). In short, yes. It will be perfect for doing the door handle patches, I used mine on an S10 years ago. It's a good little learner to tell you the truth. I have since upgraded to an ESAB Migmaster!
  5. how do you think these would do in some towers for the garage? I am looking into some 15's for the man cave
  6. Just paid full price, on purpose through West Coast Car Audio. I support ANY American business, especially one that sells EXACTLY what I need!
  7. $1,000.00 shipping!? What the fuck?
  8. I am interested also, got a buddy looking to get one. Any bad reviews?
  9. I have had a 1500d for years and it's still solid. I got it refurbed from Ebay like 7 years ago
  10. Springfields kit is pretty basic. You have to put it all together, not a drop in for sure. I got one for a 10" Type R and it was great after I figured it all out
  11. Item bought:Alpine amp end caps Date sold: Jan 2012 Experience: GREAT. Comments: He went beyond any expectations and made sure they were what I needed and offered to refund me if they didn't fit! Overall: Hope he is selling something I need soon! HONEST SELLER!
  12. I burned through a corner on an 82 Harley saddle bag I spent a week fixing and repainting (dude dropped it in his garage) and about had a stroke!lol I have one I got from a jobber in KY and it's awesome. Can't think of the name, it's been a while since I used it but it has great balance and the thumb RPM dial is great.
  13. It sounds to me like you're terrified of the rotary buffers.. lol they aren't that dangerous if you keep your rpms at like 1800 and keep that thing moving quickly. I polished my car in like 30min with one of these and didn't break through. terrified? No. I have seen people fuck up a paint job in a hurry because they didn't know how to use a buffer. They think it's the same as a random orbit polisher and it is NOT! So you buff it every time you wash it? You do know that the compounds are abrasive right?!
  14. what kind of power is it making with the 383? My neighbor and I built one for his 87 Chevy 4x4 and it was an axle snapping monster!
  15. it's too cold to get on a box for it. If it warms up tomorrow I might venture out to Lowe's. I am being lazy with the pics but I will post them today
  16. we have a pawn shop that sells DD, Sundown and a mix of other high end stuff here and they are WAY over priced. All the others have brand names I have never even seen before or L7's for twice as much as you can get from ebay.lol
  17. so I just gave the sub a "free air test" with a directed 1500d, lawnmower battery and a Sansa. I knew I should have sewn the tinsel leads but I was in a hurry! Aside from a little lead slap it gets down! Gonna try and get some wood and do up a little enclosure today for the wife's car! I'll try to make a video when it's done. I was surprised how much power it took, I know free air doesn't show it's full potential but it took the amp most of the way up and didn't bottom out and there was no coil rub! I am a bad ass!lol
  18. have had several and they were not bad. I recommend them if you get a good deal.
  19. I know the coil needs to be centered. I am sure it's good. I'll see in the morning. I got the kit off ebay and hope it was worth it. Definitely not a "drop in" recone! So far I have $70.00 into it. I could have gotten a working 10" Type R for around the same price for sure, but I wanted to see if I could rebuild a blown one.
  20. these type rs are a bit different. There is a plastic ring that holds down the bottom spider and you have to glue the spider to it before you screw the ring back down. I did some tricky aligning and am pretty sure it's good. Did the old "push on it" test.lol If it rubs I'll play it till it quits! How low should I tune the enclosure? I know home audio subs are tuned higher, I figure about 45hz or so. Any ideas?
  21. lol, I shimmed it. That was just the pessimist in me coming out. It's all together. Coils read a steady 2.1 so we'll see when it's all cured up in the morning. I plan on using it in a sub for my garage. Any suggestions on the tuning/size of enclosure? And type-r's are a pain in the ass! As long as it makes music I'll be happy. I am about to upload some pics from my phone and will post them in a while. I think I am going to try this with some other subs later on. Just gotta keep checking the for sale section for motors and baskets.lol
