    most tachs have 4 wires, a + a - a trigger for the light and the trigger for the tach. the tach trigger goes to the - on your coil, the rest are self explanitory

    actually they read spark pulses from your coil, so you need to set it for the number of cylinders to get an rmp reading. which is why they have switches on them for 4/6/8 cylinders...

    you aint ever gonna get a cop fired for that shit...I've tried, many times. every time the judge basically said, sucks to be you, NEXT! but seriously though, don't hate cops cuz a few got power trips goin on. most I meet now a days are pretty cool... also, if a cop is being a complete asshole and you have witnesses you can in fact refuse to take tickets or be arrested, although you'll likely get maced or worse...
