He played sports and was active within the school's community while maintaining a very respectable GPA. 3.75 in high school isn't the most impressive thing in the world but if you are active in other activities that colleges are interested in then they're more likely to throw money your way. The kid might have stellar SAT scores and be president of his class for all we know. If a college gives out merit-based scholarship it's because the kid earned it and it has nothing to do with any other student's potential financial aid offerings.

It's merit-based. Every college has a budget and within that budget they have a set amount to give as merit-based scholarship and a set amount to give out as financial aid. If the kid earned a merit-based scholarship for his solid GPA and athletic ability then he absolutely deserves it.

WTF? Raid 0 SSD's in a 5-year old desktop? The BEST way to get your machine running out-of-the-box fast is to backup your data, wipe the drive, and reinstall Windows. But not everyone has hours to kill and it can be quite daunting if you've never done so before. DjCrush outlined some great steps for you. Uninstalling old/unused software and removing unnecessary software from the "Startup" tab can definitely breathe some life into an old machine. If you are looking for a lightweight antivirus that gets the job done I'd personally suggest Microsoft Security Essentials. It's what I run and always suggest to others. Many manufacturers have models out now that use nVidia's 650/670/675M chips which all give phenomenal performance in Diablo 3. Best for the money in my opinion would be Sager's 15-incher with the i5 and the GTX 670M. The i5 will be plenty for gaming on and the 670M should handle D3 on high settings with 40+ fps even at 1080p. Plus nVidia's Optimus technology will help you retain battery life. It's upgradeable in several areas if you feel the need, such as a larger HDD or even the option of having an 80GB SSD as a boot and program drive. Only issue I can see is Sager has most (if not all) of it's screens on Back Order. How do you figure? IDK where you're getting the "7hz off in tuning" number from. Tuning frequency of a subwoofer enclosure and resonant/peak frequency of your vehicle are two different things.

Definitely go DVI. HDMI doesn't always play nice with some graphics chips. The monitor looks slick and specs look solid. I can't find any reviews but it looks awesome and if you can get it for a good price i say go for it.

From what I'm reading you'll be fine. The Google machine is giving me all sorts of useful information but it looks like it takes roughly a 5% concentration of gold to compromise the strength of solder and there's not nearly that much in a thin coat of plating. If you're looking for the best answer it'd be "the less lead there is in the solder the better if you're gonna be soldering plated parts." But if you're just looking to solder the power wire inside the terminals there won't be any issues with soldering. EDIT: If you use gold-plated terminals it'll likely melt off some of the gold plating on the inside and possibly some around the rim of the terminal. It shouldn't fuck up the outside though if that's your concern. If you like the look of the gold terminals feel free to use them without fear.

For power or signal distribution I'm not entirely sure if it matters much more than preventing corrosion and aesthetics. Gold, nickel, and platinum plated surfaces will all resist corrosion and tarnishing much better than a copper or aluminum piece would on its own. This is why you'll often see gold-plated RCA's or HDMI cables. Realistically, I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference what type of plating you choose other than the look and the price. Nickel and platinum will be similar. Gold's obviously gonna stand out if you want it to. Gold will provide the best electrical conductivity of any metal besides copper or silver so it would hypothetically be best for RCA's. Soldering opens up a whole can of worms on plated parts. What would you be looking to solder? Generally something is soldered and then plated. If you solder an already-plated piece the heat of the solder gun could melt the thin metal plating or the reaction of the plating with the lead and tin in solder can possibly compromise the bond of the metals.

While booting the machine hold Command+R. It should bring up a recovery panel. From there you can wipe the drive and reinstall the OS without needing the disk over the internet.

Gotcha. My entire taskbar is almost filled. I've got a slew of applications on it that extend past half of my screen on the left and then I also have all my notification icons shown that take up a good 1/3rd of the right hand side. No desktop icons though. If you use desktop icons in Win7 you're doing it wrong.

I also don't get why you have the Taskbar on the top but then added a second bar to the bottom? Other than looking like a Mac does it do anything? Please tell me you realize you can add programs to the Win7 Taskbar and launch them from there.

Huh. Interesting little tool. i'll have to check it out. I've been carrying Ubuntu installed on my flash drive with all my commonly used programs in order to have a static, controlled environment on any PC I log onto. Seems like this would do something similar. My only concern is that it looks like it'll only run on Windows boxes but that's probably a non-issue for most people. This looks like it would be great if you go to a University that limits the software allowed on their library or computer lab machines. Nice find
