What can they handle?

Some simple math with your 3,000 watt Class D example at 14.4 VDC on sine waves would be: 3,000 / .75 = 4,000 watts Input required x 2 = 8,000 watts input (is this to accout for efficiency of an amplifier???) 8,000 / 14.4 = 555 amps of current Let's say your amps require 17 feet of power wire between them and the batteries and another 5 foot between them and the frame (chassis won't cut it here) for their grounds. To get 555 amps of current to your amps at 14.4 VDC, you'd need: Big Wire: - 1/0 AWG wire has .0001 ohms resistance per foot - 22 foot of it will have .0022 ohms of total resistance - 555 amps through 22 foot of 1/0 . . . 555 x .0022 = 1.22 Volts drop in the cable alone - 4 runs of 1/0 AWG . . . 555 x .00055 = .30 Volts drop in the wire - mo' better BEEFY Alts: - 300 amps at 14.7 volts . . . remember, we lost 3 tenths of a volt in our four runs of 1/0 AWG . . . - 2 required Now, if we add batteries, these need 7 to 10 amps of current each to allow charge to flow into them . . . I'm not seeing the benefit with the car running. But, if you wanted to jam this system with the key off then you'd need 'em for sure. Look at the AH rating on the battery you're shopping for. On music, these two amps would require roughly half of the current they require on sines . . . let's say these batteries had a 65 AH rating. 555 / 2 = 277.5 Amps 277.5 Amps / 65 AH = 4.3 So, you'd need 4 to 5 batteries to play this system wide open on music for ONE hour. After one hour, nominal battery voltage would be somewhere around 10.5 to 11 VDC. And . . . these 4 batteries would require 40 amps of current to allow them to be charged with the vehicle running . . . better get Dom to up those alts to 350 amp models . . (when you say that batteries require 7- 10 amps of current to allow them to be charged, is that true for all agm batteries, or does that vary depending on size and capacity etc...) sorry about the off topic questions, but im interested in seeing the answers about the caps. i have always told the people that i install systems for, that a cap will hurt your system. (not that ive really dealt with people that have spent good money on a quality cap, but for the shitty swap shop ones, i tell them they will only hurt your system)

alright cool. well a 3100 will fit under the hood (i will find out for sure today when my battery arrives lol) no, i wont be competing. it will just be for daily music--althought i do like to play things loud for a long time (not just 30 second demos or what not) so i just want to make sure i have the electrical to support that.

i have just bought a 94 astro ext. it has the 4.3 vortech motor in it, and as far as i know, i will be able to fit the singer large case 350a alt. ive got my first d3100 on the way, and im looking to find out how many more i should get. i will be running an aq 3500 at .7, and a kicker zx850.4 at 4 ohms. I will have 2 runs of 1/0 gauge wire from front to back. what do you guys think? also, ive got the pos factory battery under the hood. keep it or just replace it with one of the d3100s? i was thinking i would need 3 d3100s altogether

Yes! Awesome subs! In for Vids! -
looking to get 130$ for the dd-1, comes with everything that you would get from steve. only used it a couple times. works and looks 100% like new. but id prefer to trade for double din pioneer. needs to have everything-no missing harness or anything. needs to be a recent model-nothing from 5 + years ago. will add cash on my end. total budget is 250-300$ lmk what you got!

Thinking of going 4th order

its tough, just be prepared to test, and fail, and test with the possibility of getting it right!. best of luck though
