Most of our customers (I've been in IT since 95') run HP Elitebooks and have no problems. I would just suggest that you only look at laptops that are above $800 (preferably HP or Toshiba) because while there are cheap ones out there you should expect them to suck just like Peal n Seal Be sure to uninstall the crapware as well... If you have some knowledge and go with an Elitebook it should come with a system disk (will say Windows 7 etc on it). Download all of the drivers from the HP site, put them on a stick, reinstall using that OS disk, and load the drivers. On some models USB won't work w/o a driver update so just make sure you have some blank CDs should the need arise. By the same token I've been running a MB since the unibody hit and haven't had a single issue either, but they are a consumer product and while quality is generally good as a business you don't want to get pigeon holed. You need a product that you have plenty of options for repair, tons of software, and no quirks when it comes to doing things for work. 100% agree... IMO the list goes Toshiba and then HP simply because every Toshiba I've had or worked with was replaced because it was old never because it broke down.

I contacted 5 modders (about GM) hoping that would be a solution but none of them could help. Honestly it pisses me off because back when I got this truck (07) I was still in tight with a bunch of engineers at GM Tech (I worked for GMU). All the guys I knew either left or were laid off. I know w/o a DOUBT it is possible simple because it has the same code the trucks do and all that needs to happen is "tow mode" has to be enabled. Even trucks w/o the tow option have the stupid ass feature, just no where to hook into it Why don't the OEMs tell people with PCM controlled cars/trucks (GM for sure) to NOT run a DR alt and put up with the charge warning? We all look at a damn volt meter all the time anyways.

I also use a CTEK Just keep in mind that the batts should not be getting drained. If you charge them up and it happens again either something is on or one of the batteries might have a bad cell.

Another option is to make 100% sure your pulley is the correct size. Measure (or look up) the size of your crank. Then measure the pulley on your alt. Divide crank by alt pulley, then multiply that by your max RPM (engine RPM). That number should be close to the manufacturers MAX suggested RPM for your alt. Say your crank is 5" and your alts pulley is 1". You divide 5/1 which gives you 5. You then multiply 5xMAX ENGINE RPM which will give you the MAX alternator RPM in your current setup. The reason for doing this is to make sure that you have the smallest pulley you can. If at max engine RPM the alt is only doing 17000RPM then you have room for improvement. Some of these guys (alt manufacturers) say 19000, some say 22000, some say 26000... Depends who you ask, but the only one you care about is what Mechman tells you. Just note that the alt will blow apart if you just randomly put on a smaller pulley, be sure it meets spec.

The 5ks are beasts. I've seen some killer numbers after rise so either way you go I'm sure you will happy. If it were me I would go with the 5k that way it's a simple upgrade path should you decide to. Ask Derrick about them, there are some guys down in Columbus getting some ridiculous numbers out of them. Obviously you would do well with SD as well, but I just think 1 amp is easier. If you think you will go in another direction though, you know the resale on SD is plain stupid (good that is). I assume the 2500's you're talking about are from the used sale? It's an AP3k man... One good battery is enough. You more than likely have a 120a alt (double check). Figure you have 50a in reserve and your amp draw with that amp is 200 MAX. Figure less than that unless it's an extreme situation (voltage drop, clipped out the ass, etc). Hook up what you have and see how it does. If it sucks (voltage wise) get a good battery and sell the cap. Just remember if you want to go 14v+ all the time you're going to need like a 300a alt especially if you have another amp for interiors. If I were you I would do what I said, hook it up and see what happens. If it doesn't work well sell the cap, get a 3100 or 2400 or 2700 (whatever fits) and a smaller one for the rear if you still need more. Just keep in mind you can't run around blasting it all the time even with an alt, it will fry.

Do the big 3, run it and see what happens. Anyone that immediately says "you need an HO alt" for an AP3k and doesn't even ask what vehicle you have is someone you don't need to be listening to (not to mention there are people running way more on stock alts, you just need to charge your batts). Speaking of which what vehicle? What size stock alt? Hook it all up, do the big 3 and see how much voltage drop you get. If the cap has a voltmeter on it hook up a meter and make sure it's accurate before you count on it. If you have crazy drop, dimming lights, etc. then you can address the issue from there.

With one amp you would have to run them at 2ohms or .5ohms. If the amp is 1ohm stable then run it at 2ohms. Check the rating at 2ohms and more than likely it should get it within the power range for those subs.

Adding more ram is always good, but eventually you can't add any more hardware and have to resort to going with a front and backend. Better to find the problem Before I left The Planet my servers had purchased hardware which was a pretty sweet deal. They got rid of that as an option I think, but in the future if you need an upgrade they often times have clearance items that can be bought upfront. I used to get extra disks and ram for a one time fee which would be paid for within 3-6 months of their monthly charges. Just something to keep in mind the next time you need to upgrade

Good idea. The best thing you can do is try to improve her situation where she is and just monitor it for yourself (if they are local). Keep the custody thing on the back burner because without proof of any wrong doing the court won't move her especially if there is not a recorded history of problems (generally they send out a social worker to investigate conditions in the home). Find out the laws in your area and just make sure your dad is providing what he should be.
