You dont need it if you dont want to use it. if you got the screws and feel like using it go head. But it will be a challenge to use it on a drop in style recone since when these rings are used the coil and spider assembly are glued up, then get glued onto the basket where the ring then gets screwed down, after that the cone gets glued onto the former. With the drop in recone all one piece it will be a bit harder to glue everything down, then try to gain access to screw down the ring between the surround and basket at least on the 1.5s, but they are using a much thinner ring. But you could use it and screw them in from the outside like before if you wanted, like you said its not really a bad idea if they where on the outside previously. if your using CA Glue on the spider landing, a nice bead of glue and a clamp between each basket leg will be fine, just be sure to allow the glue to cure for a full 24hours before playing since activator/accelerator only cures the outside of the glue.

Those rings are normally put in to hold the spiders down while drying when built. They are not really needed, and if you where able to salvage the ring and screws that are caked full of glue props to you, but just clamping the spider down will work just as well until the ca glue cures. I have rebuilt several sa-8s and never once took the time to get that ring cleaned, and never used it, and never had an issue.

The sa-12 requires 6.53 inches of mounting depth to clear the motor. That is not including the added clearance you will need for the pole vents to properly cool the voice coil. If your max available depth is only 6inches, your .53 inches short From what your saying you do not have the room

2 SA-12s should perform great in a 2.325 cubic foot box with that sort of power as long as you have the 6.5 inches of depth inside the box that the woofer requires, orther wise the SD-2 series is a 1.25 inches shallower if needed and would still shine bright in that size box and power.

Those motors are sick... Will have 6 of those one day!!! I swear I could be put to work at Sundown HQ and would consider it a vacation because there is just so much to learn, and play with that gets classified as "work" going on there. Im sure after a while the fun dies out, but when your able to turn your hobby into a career there is no better job.

You should have ordered glue with your recone, most companies will sell you small amounts which is enough to do the recone for about 20ish dollars. You need a high tensile strength shock resistant thick viscosity CA Glue.

even if the coil would fit the magnet gap, and even if you bought the correct sundown basket, doesnt mean it will will work or be far from correct. there are specific things that need to be measured out so the woofer works properly, if they are not measured out things that can and will happen will be things like the coil bottoming out on the back plate of the motor due to the coil sitting to low in the gap, if the coil is sitting to high in the gap it has the posibilities to leave the gap all together and on its way back down it can hit the side and bend the former. Depending on how the coil fills out the gap can be a huge change in BL and may not have the proper motor force to move the properly which will make the woofer extremely inefficent and would require more power, which then could result in the coil over heat and blow. Then you have more obious things like 2 completly different motors, and I can guarentee the top plate on the XL and the ZV4 are different thickness's which will change where the coil needs to sit in the gap. So chances are buying a drop in zv4 recone is just going to be flushing your money away, since the parts would have to be built up around the dc motor and sundown basket specs to even have the ability for it to even somewhat work how it should.

The name thing is the best part about them imo besides that they look sick of coarse. But anyone can get an audio shirt from most companies, however most companies wont do custom printing with your name, you get what you get. Being able to get your name added is going to make you feel more appreciative of the shirt and make you feel more part of the crew I guess you could say

Hard to explain what im trying to say. But the DMM and the CC-1 are going about matching the gains slightly different from my understanding. if you where to dyno the mismatched amp that requires more voltage to make the same power on the cc1 you would see the wattage would come out the same as the first amp, where as if you volt matched with a dmm as the first amp your dyno results would be different even tho they are reading the same voltage. however I guess it will matter how much farther you turn the screwdriver after the light turns on..

Since amps are nearly never the same, look at Rockfords that come with a birth sheet for example. You have one bdcp2500 that does 2900wrms @ 1ohm, and you have another bdcp2500 that does 3300wrms @ 1ohm. They are the same amps, but yet one is more powerful. So when using the gain matching feature on the CC-1 it is gain matching your amplifier by wattage, not A/C voltage (like your Digital MultiMeter is). When you are volt matching by voltage via dmm and you have 2 of the same amps and one is slightly stronger, one amp at say 50volts is going to be louder then the other amp at 50volts meaning your amps ARE NOT VOLT MATCHED.

First off setting the amps to a lower volume on the headunit wont hurt because you will just compensate that by a higher amplifier gain setting on the amp due to the less preout voltage on the headunit. Ideally you will want to tune the headunit at the lowest undistorted volume level which appears to be volume 34 (I believe it says to average the two numbers together in the manual, but Id make 34 the max since there is no 34.5). When checking the headunits max volume only use track 1 for the subwoofer preouts and track 2 for the front/rear preouts. The other tracks on the disc do not matter what so ever for finding the max unclipped volume of the radio. Tracks 3-7 are for tuning the amplifier portions. Now if your mids/highs amp was tuned for volume 35 it is possible the headunit clipped the preouts early since you previously found volume 35 was distortion when you tested the preouts. Does it mean you will get more gain out of your amp its hard to say, but if you make 1 thing have distortion in your setup, everything from the point of distortion will cause everything after it to distort. Im not sure if you used track 4 or 6 to tune that amplifier that powers your mids/highs, but if you used track 4, than go ahead and retune it with track 6 and try using volume 34 on the headunit instead of 35. The higher the efficiency rating normally means the louder the speakers will be with less power, but sometimes the manufactures ratings are not spot on or far from close. If the speakers are still not loud enough after retuning, id look into your amp, its quality and or if it is actually doing the power that it claims to, and possibly go amp shopping.
