  1. Hey guys new member here hoping for some advice. I've always had systems in my cars but nothing crazy (amps that say 2k watts and put out 300). This time I want to go BIG. I intend to be running 2 fi btl's 18's powered by a Taramps HD8k. Instead of just buying a component set for the front and coaxils in the rear I thought Id try something different this time. I wanted to try 4 Skar audio 6.5" mids in the doors and 4" tweeters (two in dash and two in rear). Thats 2,240 watts RMS. Best amps I have found so far to power these are either the tara or stetsom 2k 4 channels (would be running two of these). I've read that these amps (brazilian amps in general) are prone to distortion and not the best choice for mids and highs. The non brazalian amps don't seem to be putting out enough power. So what do you guys recommend? Should i just go with a Taramps? Is there a non brazalian amp that doesn't cost a shit ton of money and give me the power I need? I appreciate all and any advice and sorry if I sound ignorant but want to do it right this time. Thanks!
  2. I drive a 2006 Toyota Corolla ce and currently have alpine type r 6x9s and 6 1/2s as my door speakers connected to the head unit. I am wanting to upgrade but I was wanting to know if focal was worth the price or if there was another brand that could produce the same quality for cheaper or if there is an even better speaker to run my mids and highs. I really love my type r's even though I know they aren't getting proper power but wanted some advice and personal opinions on other brands etc Also I would like to know what a good four channel amp would be to get to power my door speakers Thank you
  3. Posted this in the wrong section. Moving here. Hi Everyone, Took me a while but I finally ran into SMD website since lately I've been upgrading my car audio for my 06 Avalanche. I don't have anything wild and probably will keep it this way until I can get the bigger bucks. I sure wish I had found this site before I went ahead and got what I have in now. Nevertheless I am content at the moment. I have a couple questions from browsing for the past 2 weeks on this site and watching all of Steve's tutorial and build videos. My build: HU: Pioneer AVH X4500BT (Will upgrade to NEX 4100) Subwoofers: 2 Rockford 10" R2SD4-10 Shallow 4ohm DVC Enclosure: Dual Sealed Amplifier: P500-1bd Wired: @ 1ohm using 4gauge wires (500RMS) Door Speakers: Rear: Polk Audio db651s Coaxial Front: Db6501 Components Amplifier: Pioneer GM A5602 Wired: @ 4ohms (150RMS) Like I said nothing too wild but a great improvement over factory. I already know for one after watching Steve do his thing, I want and NEED a DD-1, two) I want and NEED OM-1s. Lol Questions: 1) Since Im wired 1ohm using the above amp using the RF wiring guide for the above subs. Would I need 2 OM-1 to reflect 2 subs output or just 1. 2) When adjusting gain for mids & high, seeing that I have what I believe is a passive crossover, I tried doing this "by ear" and man do the tweets scream, don't even think I heard the mids, I don't even think the gain was even quarter of the way up before I had to back off. I know this wasn't the most efficient way of tuning but until I can get the DD-1, are the polks that loud that the gain would not even need to be adjusted that much even when using the DD-1? Sorry for the long first thread. Ill post pictures when I can. Thanks, Keagan
  4. Hello all! I need to come up with something to put into a 1965 Chevy C10, one of the sick classic looking head units is on it's way, and it's giving me a whopping 150 watts to put out. Now this is where I need some help. I've never designed a mids/highs setup in a car before, and could use some major tips about locations and angle of said speakers, or if just ordering some prefab panels would be the smarter choice. Thanks to everyone that can help me!! I apologize for the lack of photos, i took some of the possible kick panel space, mainly because there is no room behind the seat or under, so it's about all there is left.

    Speaker not working

    Hello Everyone, I have two 4x6 speakers that are fairly new.I have used them a bit but now they no longer produce any sound when hooked to the head unit.I know that the wiring is all good because I hooked up a new speaker to that channel and it worked fine.The 4x6's both look new there are no rips in the cone and no dents or anything on the magnet.What could be causing them to not work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. I am looking for a cheaply priced 4ch. amp, to run two 8" RF Punch Pro mid bass and two RF Punch Pro 5.25" and two Punch Pro bullet tweeters, 5.25's and tweeters will be on a crossover. The flip down monitor I am getting is made by Performance Teknique, it looks like a nice monitor with good reviews but I have never heard of the brand. When I was looking for a 4ch. amp, I came across the Performance Teknique ICBM-900.4D. It's 75w RMSx4 @4ohms, 100w RMS x4 @2ohms. So it will power the 8's good at 4 ohm, while the other channel should power the 5.25's and tweeters pretty well. Only problem, I have never heard of this brand of amp and have no clue how well it will perform. It look's pretty beefy and if it could do rated or a little more, I would be happy. Has anyone had any experience with these amps or know whether or not they're good? I will eventually get a new 4ch. to match the brand of whatever sub amp/amps I get, but would like something for the time being. I was also looking at a Soundstream STL-4500, 500w 4ch., 80wx4 @4ohms, 125wx4 @2ohms. The Soundstream is only a class A/B though, so I am not too sure on that either. Input is greatly appreciated but please don't bust on me for looking at these amps, lol. They're only temporary solutions for the winter and I just don't want something that will struggle to out power my head units build in amp. Thanks!
  8. What's up guys? I am trying to come up with a way to switch between my selenium horns underneath my yukon and my rear mids/highs on the fly. I am just looking for some ideas. I'm not sure if there is some type of 3 way switch that would allow the input of 2 sets of speaker wires to toggle with one output going to the amp. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. I would like to mount the switch on the dash, then I can just quickly change my crossover settings on the head unit when i swich inputs. The horns won't be used often, I mostly bought them for tailgating and shows. Thanks.

    Mixing Coaxials with Comps?

    I have 03 Blazer I'm about to start a build on in a couple weeks. It has 6.5s in all four doors and 4x6's in dash (IIRC). I plan on cutting the power to the dash speakers but just leaving them factory. I have decided to go with the Crescendo CZ series for components in the front. Because my budget is a little tight at the moment i can't afford to put a comp set in the rear also so I was wondering can coaxials in the rear will keep up with the comps but not sing over them? I was considering the Crescendo PWX Pro mids but I'm pretty sure those would be a lot louder than the comps. Or should I cut the power to the rear spkrs also and just have comps in the front? Also my mids and highs are being powered by a Clarion XH5410 and my sub stage is 2 Zv3 15s powered by CT1400.1 if any of this helps... Thanks in advance

    Mid's n High's Tuning

    Hello, I'm wanting to maximize my sound with what I have and want to see if I'm on the right path with insuring I have maximum clarity from my Mids and Highs. I'm currently running 2 Custom Door Pods with a Pyle PDMR6 6.5 & Pyramid TW44 Super Tweeter hooked up to a Audiopipe 2-Way Cross Over on each pod. Both Pods are ran by a Planet Audio AC1600.4 and hooked to a Audiopipe 9 Band Equalizer. Can someone please steer me in the right direction. Thanks

    Mids and highs amp?

    Anybody have any recommendations on some good mids and highs amps? So the NVX VSP65KIT 6.5" components say they are about 70 watts rms per side, 140 rms in all, so it shouldn't take much to power them...

    Mids won't fit

    Probably not the first to ask but I need help. I have a 1999 Honda accord lx 4 door. i have some old pioneer which I'm guessing came in the car originally that I want to replace. I bought some Rockford Fosgate R1 6.5s to go in but the basket itself won't allow the speaker to mount. Any guesses on what brand I could use to go in the stock location without modifying other than cutting the back out for the magnet depth. I've never done custom doors before but if thats what needs to be done then let me know. Any suggestions and tips would be great. I have to obsidian audio 10s coming my way and would like to step my mids and highs up.

    So I am wondering what the best budget pair of coaxial speakers are. And also my dodge ram 1500's front speakers are 6x9s... Should I stick with 6x9s or get something else?
  14. As of lately I've been having doubts about my system in regards to installing/putting more into it or just stopping and leaving it the way it is. I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with 2 Fi Q 15's on 2K watts. An under-sized Ported Box tuned to 30hz (probably is 4.5 cubes on 2 15's...really small). Stock alternator. 2 Batteries (still dips voltage though). Stock Bose mids + tweeters. Have NO sound deadener installed atm. Anyway I'm just going to list out the things i'd LIKE to do to the truck soon, but don't know how worth it it would be to do so, here it is: single or double layer Murder Mat in the entire truck, get clean+loud mids + highs, get a 7-8 cu ft Ported Box tuned to 33hz (have NO IDEA where port(s) should be - still facing trunk lid OR facing roof? - not to mention id like to keep my middle row seats), and possibly upgrade the alternator to a 250+ amp. My problem is if I decide to do even ONE of those things in that list, I figure i should do ALL of them just to have my system "perfect" as much as it can be and possibly compete hopefully one day soon. You can imagine to do all that it once would cost a decent amount of cash. There's a nerve-wrecking issue I'm having with the overall Sound Quality of my build atm. That would be the front 2 doors + windows rattling / making a heavy amount of unwanted tones. I figured 2 15's on only 2k wouldn't make that much bad noise, but it does in my truck. I literally have to press my leg against the door panel to bring those noises down to a cleaner level of sound. The lows arent as bad as the highs, but it still irritates the heck out of me. Well guys I know this is a pretty lengthy post but if anyone has any advice about sound quality, the box design + space in the vehicle, etc id really appreciate it. I'd HATE to just say that I'm done with the whole bass system after i put quit a bit of time and money into the truck already, but its almost coming down to that. Would anyone with sound-deadened systems be able to tell me how much the deadener helps with door panel and especially window noise? I appreciate whoever can offer anything, thanks in advance.

    so i bought two sa15s, love love love sundown. i have them running off a saz2500. i have my electrical system all upgraded now so im moving on to my next step, my vocals and sound quality! now i wanted to get the new sundown neo pros but are they really worth the money? im in a battle between the neo pros and the crescendo pwx's. opinion on which is better? specs? i here both are amazing but i cant decided which i want. cosmetically i love the look of the pwx's, better than the neo pros, and i love their ft1 super tweeters(i really want those lol) but help me out! any suggestions or comment would be appreciated

  17. Hey guys I was just wondering what is the best way to add a center channel to my car? My type of car does not have center channel from the factory. What can I buy and where can I mount the speaker in my car to give me a true center channel. Btw I already looked up stuff on google, none of the sites gave me a clear answer.

    Looking for mids and highs

    Right now I am running a set of RF P1 6.5'' and a set of RF P1 5.25'' for my mids/highs in my doors. In the near future I am looking to putting something a bit better and using an amp to power them. For now it would just be one set of mids and one set of highs. Any recommendations? Looking to stay within a $150 budget for each set.
  19. Hey guys I need help on how to set my gains on my amps with my multimeter. I have a planet audio ac1600.4 for mids n highs and a planet audio ac1000.2 on my subs. (Budget build). I know the formula is ( the square root of ohms x rms power) I just don't know if I use the rms power of the amp or the speakers on the amp. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
  20. I don't want this is be a big vs thread I'm only asking what people think that have tried either or both speakers and the sq of them. I drive a 01 Saturn L200 and I'm looking to get better mids/highs. I'm trying to decide btwn the RF T2652-S or the Crescendo PWX 6.5 and FT1 tweeters. I plan on using an MB Quart 1000.4 bc I will also have a RF P2D2-8 in each door as well. Is there a better sq coming from one or the other or are they pretty much equal?
  21. hey my mids and highs are playing bass and when I turn up the volume it all distorts and sounds horrible, it was working fine with no bass playing through the mids and highs until we changed over the sub they started to play bass. we didn't change any settings on the head unit just took one sub out and put another in. any ideas what could have happened?

    Make me a full mids/highs setup

    Aye guys. So I really don't know what to do about my mids and highs. The stuff I have now needs to go. I have a 1994 Pontiac Gran Prix. Stock doors and Pioneer 6x9 in the deck. My head-deck is a JVC KD-HDR61. I'd like to not spend more then 250-300 on speakers. Not all to sure if I need an amp for the mids/highs? Please let me know if I do or not. If I do i'll raise that budget to compensate for needing one. The door size speakers are 5.25s and the rear 6x9s. I think I need 6.5s in the back and maybe keep 5.25s in the back? Not all to sure. Please throw out all your ideas! I'm open to anything! Btw i'm leaning towards MB quart. I've heard there good for the money and it seems like they'll do what I need them to. Thanks!
