Carroot1 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 about clipping. isnt it ok for the subs to clip softly. not a full clip. but just a quickie assuming that the subs are not overpowered they should be fine, atleast mine are
Forevrbumpn Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 a clipped signal will move the subwoofer in a un natural motion. Imagine the motion being a smooth ripple like a ripple in the water, but if that signal turns violent, basically starts to lose its shape, square wave, etc, the subwoofer cone loses control, and can cause mechanical issues usually with the triple joint, leads, or coil over heating. I do think it is possible for the plastic spacers to fail to clipping, if the coil is moving a lot further than the spider can move, and that triple joint that connects the spider to the coil is strong enough, then the spider landing is the next place to fail. I personally seen that a few times when I did warranty repair, but what I seen more was triple joints broken, leads, and coils burned Basically, the manufacturer would have to warranty these speakers, because a glue joint broke free- Manufacturing issue If the coil was burned, and the glue joint was intact, well, that is more of a customer abuse issue See what I'am getting at? My earlier stated 100% sure about glue failure, has dropped to about 75% glue failure/manufacturer failure 25% customer abuse I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
STEvil Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Glue. Have a spider being held down by clamps on one of my MA Audio HK 18's due to failed glue. Also, I can make them stinky on 1500w of clipped power.. at well below tuning that is. heh. MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.

Im sorry for offending anyone i was just trying to get help on the subject. Everyone needs to chill out a little and stop taking everything so personal. Bang em if you got em

crunkjuice1 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Get your own, if you are concerned about getting the most out of your system and want to do it right save up and get this, http://www.testextra.com/ Then watch videos in, http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/44377-how-to-set-your-amp-gains-with-an-o-scope-easy/ There is a video on youtube that Steve shows to avoid clipping all the way from the headunit, and you work your way to your amps.

Usually if you have a faulty sub, it will let you know very quickly.
