Ok so when I was at Dick's Sporting Goods today i got my hands on a remington 870 hd 12ga with the 18" and a mossberg 500 12ga with the 20" barrel. I am looking at them mainly for home defense with the occasional hunt maybe once a year. Remington was 380 and the Mossberg was 330. The Remington was lighter but the mossberg felt more 'real'. Im torn between the two so please vote and cast an opinion.

See my dilemma lol? Which would be easier to maintain?

im not going to vote on the poll because i like both guns. i personally own a mossburg 500 and i love it to death. my friend has a remignton 870 and it is almost the same gun. i have never seen a mossburg 550 so i have no opinon on that gun. but i would deffinetly say go with what YOU are comfortable with. you dont want to end up having a gun your not comfortable with. maybe even go to a shooting range and see if they have the guns there and you can get some shots off with each.

You know that might just be the thing to do lol, see if i can get some shots off with both. does either have beter accessories or easier maintenance?

for home defense I would take the mossberg 590a1 for a few reasons...

its like the 500 but a little more heavy duty with a metal safety and trigger guard, upgraded magazine, heavy wall parkerized barrel

the major differences between the mossberg and the remington I have noticed-

M - safety on top so you dont have to move too much to take it off safe, just use your thumb.

R - Safety is located by your trigger finger and you need to remove your finger to take it off safe.

M - the elevator is in the up position so its a little easier to load

R - down position

Home Defense = mossberg

for fun = dont matter

(never seen a 550???)
