jconnway
so if i'm bumping hard and open the trunk, by changing the airspace quickly i could blow the woofers!? i suppose it makes sense but I never would have thought of that Full Pioneer Build 4 Per Door - Front Door Build Up
nCOMP1337
i can see why that would affect it, does it help if you have things open before you start playing so the airspace isnt a sudden change for the woofer, i dont really plan on doing this, but you never know, i see videos where people bail out and just thinking it would suck if someone bailed out and blew someones speaker form the change in airspace

Not all setups would be damaged, but it's a bigger strain on woofers. Go open the trunk and listen to how they sound out back of the car, you will usually hear distortion much quicker than with it closed. fecupe2001
Yes, opening the hatch can damage woofers. Depends on your enclosure and car, but the enclosure and car work together, and when you change the airspace on one of those, you totally change how it is tuned and plays. Most of the time, opening a hatch or trunk releases any possibly back pressure on the woofer cone that would normally help control woofer excursion. Box tuning gets raised, and if you play a low note at any decently high power setting, it can damage the woofers. Why do you think it sounds different when you open the hatch? There´s your answer, at Venezuela there´s something called "open show" , it´s too see who´s the loudest with the trunk open playing music for the people, i saw a lot of damaged subs because of this reason, that´s why they use mostly 4th order folded horns, that stopped the sub unloading on that application... ChevyBoy95
The whole open windows closed windows deal, your subs fight the compression caused by the fixed amount of air in the car, but when you open the hatch, there is nothing pushing back on the sub, almost in a sense of in a box to free air. xXsquintyeyesXx
Why can you drive with windows down then and the subs are ok. Or park somewhere and bump hard with a door open and they are ok but you can't have the hatch open.
