kickass audio Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 i just read you have a miter saw. IF you can do this with a buddy, take the wood and put it on the miter saw and get the cut started. Then put your circular saw on that part of the wood and start making your cut. This will ensure you start the cut on track and keep going on the mark as like i said earlier its harder to turn your circular saw into angles like a jig-saw can. 2004 GMC Envoy1 XS power S3400 batt under the hood and 4 XS Power D3100's battery installed in the rear by the amps0 gauge power wire from front to backAlpine iva-w205 touchscreen dvd/cd/mp3/ipod/am/fm/gps headunitSundown Audio SAX-200.4 amp for my mids and highs8 gauge speaker wire from amp to woofer270 amp Mechman AltRockford Fosgate T1652-s component speakersRockford Fosgate 3Sixty.2 sound processorRca's from Rockford Fosgate and Monster Cable14 gauge speaker wire for the mids and highs1 18" Ascendant Audio SMD Dual 1 ohm with custom Black & Blue carbon fiber and hand signed dustcapBox: 5.66 cubic feet net volume box tuned to 30.13Hz with 1.5" wide wooden dowels and 1.5" thick baffle1 DC Audio 5.0k amp wired to .5 ohms nominal with an imp rise of 1.35 ohms for the single AA SMD 18"Future Vision 8000k 50w bi-xenon projector HID's with 4300k 35w fog lightsLink to my build: Buildupdates/progress
5K Mobile Electronics Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Home depot sells an aluminum guide for cutting strait lines with a circular saw. Its what I use, works great, it was around $30. You clamp it on with two quick clamps or c-clamps. It comes with two 4ft sections that you can put together to rip an 8ft strait down the middle the long ways. But I still would rather have a table saw. Check out our Youtube Channel and "Like" us on Facebook!

carlosg_313 Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 OP, Im sure you already do this but they have circular saws out there that have little notches in them to line up with pencil marks. I perfer to use a carpenters pencil when i make my marks and then i line it up with the notch on the foot of the saw and go from there. When the saw dust starts to build up thats when i either get a vacuum and suck it up or just blow it out of the way and keep going. Another trick i learned from my dad is to take the saw and stare it down on the line by looking at it from the rear to make sure you start out straight on the line and dont go sideways when you start the cut. Also try not to reach very far when you are cutting. I have noticed that when i or anybody for the matter try to cut and you reach far, your cuts will get uneven really fast. And finally, if i were you and you cant afford a table saw (not trying to knock on you at all, we all have times when we cant afford stuff) but id use a circular saw over a jig saw. The bigger blade on the circular saw makes it harder to bend the saw and get weird cuts where a jig saw can make weirdly shaped cuts with ease. Plus if you ever screw up, just do what i did with my old box when i tried to make my solox fit into it. Get a cheap dremel kit and sand down the parts until they are flush with the line or get a rasping tool to scrape them down. Its ghetto but it works for a budget. im never mad at the truth. im broke as hell right now and cant afford shit til payday and will be saving up for a table saw. but til then, using the almighty circular saw. and guys, if i was going to get birch wood, is there a specific birch that i should get, or is there just 1 king like MDF? How do the Japanese feel about bass? You know that since 03/11/11 Progene? I just saw that stuff on CNN. They said it makes your junk shrink all up. lol.im pretty sure the op wont even notice if it gets even smaller. Refs - Pstone11, porksoda, coleman

kickass audio Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 mdf from what everyone on here says is the best. Personally i am going to use birch plywood for my box when i make it in a few weeks for my smd. I would also make sure that the wood isnt the crap that is plywood with sawdust glued between each layer. Im not sure the correct terminology for it but its where you glue a sheet of wood onto a piece of mdf, then onto a sheet of plywood. Its known to warp easy and crack easy too. The wood i bought is just wood, on wood, on wood and its a pain in the ass to try and warp. Real birch plywood like im buying isnt cheap. Im paying 45+ a sheet at lowes for it. 2004 GMC Envoy1 XS power S3400 batt under the hood and 4 XS Power D3100's battery installed in the rear by the amps0 gauge power wire from front to backAlpine iva-w205 touchscreen dvd/cd/mp3/ipod/am/fm/gps headunitSundown Audio SAX-200.4 amp for my mids and highs8 gauge speaker wire from amp to woofer270 amp Mechman AltRockford Fosgate T1652-s component speakersRockford Fosgate 3Sixty.2 sound processorRca's from Rockford Fosgate and Monster Cable14 gauge speaker wire for the mids and highs1 18" Ascendant Audio SMD Dual 1 ohm with custom Black & Blue carbon fiber and hand signed dustcapBox: 5.66 cubic feet net volume box tuned to 30.13Hz with 1.5" wide wooden dowels and 1.5" thick baffle1 DC Audio 5.0k amp wired to .5 ohms nominal with an imp rise of 1.35 ohms for the single AA SMD 18"Future Vision 8000k 50w bi-xenon projector HID's with 4300k 35w fog lightsLink to my build: Buildupdates/progress

kickass audio Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Not a problem bro. We all started somewhere. I still dont know everything and i never will. But until you get that table saw just like the other guys said, use the circular saw and TAKE YOUR TIME. dont do what i do and rush crap and fuck it up. hahaha. This is my own build im gonna take my sweet old time at doing. I was thinking of doing a build log on here but for how slow im gonna be at doing it, i figured ppl would be mad at how much lag i would have at posting stuff. Anyways, just use the circular saw for now, make sure you have a good sharp blade on it as to not crack the wood when you cut it, and if you have it, they have vacuum add ons for the saws that will suck up the saw dust as the saw rotates. It helps but not that much but i use those.
