Ok, so me and 97ssblazer are in a debate, or kind of a this or that, on what would be louder, sound better, and be better over all.

Back story, I have 2 UFO BTL motors that I want PSI to build into 3000+ RMS to run each on a T2500-1bd (Not CP). 97ssblazer (Mike) is saying instead of having those built, sell the motors and do 6 Type R 12s.

Cost aside (cause the type rs are stupid cheap and that would win for cost), what would be better?

He says 6 12's cause it will have more cone area 480cm^2*6=2880cm^2. I can't argue that, it has more cone area. But from what I have been reading, it's cone area * xmax. If this is the case then it will be

480*20 = 9600*6 = 57600 for the 6 12s

If the 18's are built for a 28mm xmax as fi's have

1210*28 = 33880*2 = 67760 for the 2 18s

I know there needs to be a lot more in to this like box and power and what not to make a REAL informed decision, but what do you guys think?

I think the 2 18s with be better, he says 6 12's. The good thing about the 12's is they are a stocked piece so if I blow them (speading 2500RMS+ between each set of 3) I just swap them out, and they are stupid cheap.

It will be in a 97 GMC Jimmy in the cargo area, sub up port up. If more info is needed, LMK, I will try and keep this up from my phone.

Let's throw this in the bottom, who has had experience with the new T2D215s? Should I just keep them and run them at 1 ohm each?

the 6 12s slamming at he same time would look amazing, thats why i voted 6 12s. But in reality, i like simplicity, so i would personally do 2 18s. (Ive always had 2 this and 2 that, now i love having a single sub setup)

Cone is not always king, depending on your goals you might be better off with the pair of 18's than the 12's. If you plan on playing extremely low than the 18's will serve you better than the 12's will because a larger speaker will easily play lower notes than smaller speakers will. If all you want is in your face loud ass bass or you intend to compete then 12's might be the better option to go with. Again it's all a matter of preference that will decide which path to take.

Another part of his argument is that it would be better running all my power over 12 coils than 4 coils

You can sell the BTL motors and buy wire..

lower tuning is just hard. I was surprised how loud 145 sounds at 35hz, and how quiet 145 sounds at 50hz.

I think for the lows the 18's would do good, if your going to a 30 or 32hz tuning, although the 12's would still do good at 32 but better at a 35 hz tuning. And if you get the 18's they should be able to handle a T2500.bdCP. I think I'd go with the 12's for the fact that there is more and would look so much nicer in the sense of woofer porn.

Due to the fact of more cone area, I think the 6 12's would be a better bet, Now add in fact of a lot more coils to dissipate the heat and power I don't see how its not a safer bet. I know I'm on the Type R's nut's but for the price nothing can fuck with them. I get them for the lowz :drinks:. Now as I understand it at box tuning frequency the woofers don't actually move that much, So more cone area FTW unless playing below tuning freq? Correct me If I'm wrong. I know PSI's are legit but after shipping to and from plus the actual re-cone with labor I think he could save some money for deadener and wire as that's far more important than .1 or .2 DB'z....

"Let's throw this in the bottom, who has had experience with the new T2D215s? Should I just keep them and run them at 1 ohm each?" 3000 Watts RMS EACH? HELL NO! You will have 70Lb paper weights... I would like to hear them but they wont last long...
