i overnight-ed it to Chris at dB-r and told him just to overhaul the whole amp and replace all Fets and anything else that's replaceable whether it needed it or not.

better to start fresh.

Cost me ~$290 to do my Z1 iirc..

MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..."

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

sounds like every single other z1 amp ive ever seen.

I thought the Z1a was suppose to be the better more powerful updated version of the Z1?

Yeah, the regular Z1s would blow at random. You could beat the piss out of them and they'd be fine and then pop shit at low volume. They had a lot of strange issues with the original Z1. The Z1a improved all the "unusual" problems the Z1 had. But the Z1a was not the most reliable amp either, they were much better amps but abusing them was never a good idea. Wire to 1 ohm, and keep the voltage up and they worked forever. Many abused them with luck, but a lot of them went pop wired under 1 ohm and voltage drop. Either way, very unfortunate OP. Get it fixed, and treat it nicely and I doubt it will give you any more problems. The Z1a is a great amp. My Z1 worked perfect when I got it, but I still had it repaired by DD for cheap before it blew (they cut me a deal for sending it in prior to failure). And when I got it back, it STILL had an issue. It thumbed when I turned it off, it was annoying but I was lucky enough it never blew on me. They make some power though!

It's all gone!
