The Avenues, also known as Avenidas or AVE's, is a Mexican-American street gang. The Avenues, like most Mexican gangs in Los Angeles, are under the direct control of the Mexican Mafia

when sent to State, County, or Federal prisons.

Surenos (Southerners) are a group of Mexican American street gangs with origins in the oldest barrios of Southern California. Although they are based in California, the influence of

the Sureños has spread to many parts of the US and other countries as well such as Germany and Japan. The gang's alleged roots came from a prison dispute between the Mexican Mafia

(La Eme) and Nuestra Familia (NF). Those that sided with the NF aligned themselves in Northern California and called themselves Norteños (Northerners) which became the Sureños' main

adversary. Norteños appear mostly in the northern areas of California, but are also present in Northern California & southwestern states of the U.S. Sureños can be found in most states

of the U.S. The numbers are increasing and is now the largest gang in the U.S

community of Temescal Valley, which is south of Corona, California. The gang originally was called "the Psychos".[1] The club's insignia is Loki, the Norse god of mischief, riding a

motorcycle and members commonly wear green

Public Enemy No. 1 or PEN1 is a gang based in Southern California whose members have been convicted of crimes including illegal production of drugs, firearms trafficking,

identity theft, murder, and dog fighting.The gang started as "Peni Death Squad (PDS),a punk gang in the 1980s, the name being derived from the anarcho-punk/deathrock band, 'Rudimentary Peni'.

Originally, PDS were mainly a loose-knit group of suburban kids, runaways and homeless kids. Other punk gangs, La Mirada punks, Vicious Circle, The HB's, FFF (Fight For Freedom),

\L.A. Death Squad (L.A.D.S.), Circle One, and Bakersfield's Zero-Core, were other examples of Southern California hardcore punk gangs. These groups were typically suburban counter-teenagers,

skaters, surfers, etc.

Wah Ching is a Chinese American Triad Society (secret society) and street gang also known as "Dub C" originating in San Francisco during the early 1960s. At the time, Wah Ching was

organized into one enormous gang. Wah Ching controlled most of the criminal vices throughout the San Francisco and Los Angeles Asian communities.

Most Florencia (F13) also claim Sureño. Florencia is the second biggest Hispanic gang in L.A. and strongest in South Central Los Angeles. This area is located very close to the

flashpoint of the L.A. Riots and the F13 were heavily involved in looting. The F-13 has a long running feud with the hated 18th Street gang with dozens of deaths attributed between

these two major groups. Florencia and 18th Street have always been rivals but the situation got worse when the 18’s started a South Side clique around the late 80’s. F13 have beefed

for years with the notorious 38th St. Gang of the “Sleepy Lagoon” Case. The F13 are heavily involved in drug dealing and have been courted by the EME for many years. F13 has been found

in Mexico, and all over the West Coast, especially in Southern California, parts of Texas and Oregon, in Missouri, and have recently migrated to the East Coast. They are very active in

Washington being found in Seattle/King County, Pierce County, Snohomish County, in Mt. Vernon, Othello, the Yakima Valley, and the Tri-Cities, WA, area.

There are more than 250 active gangs in the City of Los Angeles. Many of these gangs have been in existence for over 50 years. Sadly, these gangs have a combined membership of over

26,000 individuals.

In Los Angeles today, under current City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, there are 37 gang injunctions covering 57 gangs and 11,000 gang members in the City of Los Angeles. Many attribute

the 33% decline in gang membership in L.A. over the past five years (from 57,000 members in 2001 to roughly 39,000 members today) to the effective use of civil gang injunctions by City

law enforcement officials.

A gang injunction in Los Angeles is when the City Attorney’s Office with approval from a judge issues a restraining order against specific gang members of a particular gang.

With information gathered from police officers, a judge will grant a restraining order against identified members of a gang, in essence suing them. In the lawsuit, the actual

gang members are mentioned, and they are forbidden to engage in a host of activities, some of which are already illegal such as selling drugs, vandalizing property and possessing weapons.

Other activities that they are restricted from doing have included associating with other named gang members, curfew or riding bicycles. Each gang injunction must define a geographic area

where these activities are restricted known as a “safety zone.”

I lived by Rockford il and lets just say im lucky i havent been shot for being stupid and getting lost on the westside but not as bad as it used to be. i heard when they tore down the cabrini green those people started movin in to a lot of towns near me and those towns were getting the "white flight" effect.

oh and MSNBC filmed a show called Inside a Crack house in Rockford it was in 2005 pretty interesting because i used to cruise by that house but like 2-3 years after it happened
