As the title suggests... Would it be beneficial to coat the inside of a ported box in something like Second Skin's Spectrum Sludge to get rid of any resonances within it?

I think that people put a layer of resin inside the box is for support. But also to make the inside of the box smooth to move the air better and make the box more efficient. So im not sure about sound deadener inside the box but i would think that it wouldnt make a noticeable difference. but i dont know.

Use resin. fill one side let it sit, settle, and dry. flip box to another side and repeat. Do this for every side.

Ok. Do you know of a place that sells chopped fiberglass 'hair'(like the stuff that comes out of a fiberglass chopper gun or what is used in kitty hair) to I can mix it with my resin when I do 45s?

Straight from our mouth.

Answer is NO.

Use it on the outside would have more benefits than having it on the inside.

Spend the time, effort, and money that you would use buying and installing the Sludge and build the box really well and you'll be much more pleased.

As for the chopped fiberglass, most body shops around here sell it in a bag. So I'd suggest hitting a body shop.

AS SSR Jon said no, don't use inside of a box as it is useless. The only things you'll want to use inside the box are polyfill, dacron or cotton batting, the point of using polyfill and batting is to reduce standing waves created by bad sub enclosure design or a design where you have no choice but to make certain shapes that lead to bad box noises. Most people use resin to coat the wood and make it as reflective as possible for spl gains.

Thanks everyone for the input!

Time to ditch the sludge idea and go learn to fiberglass
