But I don't have a large crimper so when I go to do my big3 I guess I'm gonna have to figure it out. Cool, I have never soldered anything larger than 8 gauge so I don't know if I would suck lol. But I don't have a large crimper so when I go to do my big3 I guess I'm gonna have to figure it out. Ranger: It's easier than you think Ken: This is what I do and it works pretty well Put flux on the inside of the terminal, put the terminal on the wire, then take some pliers and lightly squish the terminal around the wire. It stops it from moving around as you try to solder it and also helps to conserve solder. Then put a small amound of flux on top of the wire. Put the thing in a vice or find some way to hold it that doesn't involve your hand - it will get hot. Light your torch and heat it from the back side heind the ring. Aim the flame as low as possible on the terminal without lighting the wire's insulation on fire. As it heats up, feed it some solder. You want to push it against the back of the terminal - where the wire and part where the hole is meet. If it doesn't start to soak into the wire, wait and get it hotter. Keep adding solder until it *just* begins to come out of the bottom of the terminal. You wire is fully saturated with solder now. Let it sit for a few minutes until you can handle it. Refrain from touching or moving it as it cools. Some people like to dunk it in water to cool it down, but only do this after the solder has completely solidified. Make sure you wipe off any visible flux with a moist rag. It will cause corrosion down the road if you don't For flux, just run to home depot and grab some paste flux. For solder: I like to use 50/50 solid core. I have tried acid core and rosin core and didn't like either. Acid core always bubbled and burnt on me, so my solders looked like crap - think metallic burnt sponge.
