Decaf Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 maybe brian will redo the test and use the proper tone, in his case he used db james 8 track 30, 30hz@0db when 30hz@-10db should have been used. you cant clamp an amp using a 0db tone when gains were set to be distortion free with a -10db tone... i would bet half the power is from clipping the amp. if -10db was used the tone would have been quieter, thus resulting in much less power, but clean distortion free power. this is not even taking into account the clipping from dropping into 11v range, even while having 3 alts
spl audio1 Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 man brian this build is pure "legend of awesomeness" great job bro

However this is not the case. The sundown saz 4500 is a 4500watt rms amp. They are one ohm stable each or 2 ohm strapped. So at 1 ohm each the amps will make 4500 watts X 2 = 9000 watts rms I am running the amps at .7 strapped or .35 per amp. Clamped power is 156.6 ac volts X 87.5 ac amps = 13,702.5 watts on a burp, not rms watts peak burp watts. For impedance rise you would divide the above numbers: 156.6 ac volts / 87.5 ac amps = 1.79 ohms after impedance rise (slightly under the amps stable strapped impedance load of 2 ohms). To factor in Efficiency at 70% (which is common for most monoblocks) you would multiply: 0.70 X 13,702.5 = 9,591.75 wrms 9,591.71 WATTS RMS after RISING from .7ohms strapped to 1.79ohms strapped with a voltage drop to mid 11volts is showing that the amps are making a little more then their rated power of 9,000wrms according to the factory ratings. So decaf, are you trying to say that Sundown amplifiers do not make rated power unless they are clipped to death or what? I thought you of all people would be smart enough to know the difference between burp wattage and rms wattage decaf. Hell I thought you would be smart enough to do the basic math! I had no problems on the SMD 18 in this box that was built for less power, the woofer took 3X the rated power daily, never got hot or stinky. Funny how I didnt kill this woofer (even tho you say it is clipping) when "Kickass Audio" blew a SMD sub with under 5000 watts, in a smaller box and had well under half the power I was pushing...

So decaf, are you trying to say that Sundown amplifiers do not make rated power unless they are clipped to death or what? nope. i've owned a sundown amp and was very happy and currently run a 15" Zv2. I'm just asking you to do that same test again, using a -10db@30hz... like you should have, that's all. Let the numbers prove the point instead of our words of how much CLEAN power you have, not burp power. If you dont care about burp power and only care about musical setup you should be concerned with the -10db power you have. Again, you will end up with 5000-7000w after all variables using a distortion/clip free tone. If you promote the DD-1, why would you set everything clean then burp it dirty? I thought you of all people would be smart enough to know the difference between burp wattage and rms wattage decaf. Hell I thought you would be smart enough to do the basic math! I would've thought you would know how much +10db into clipping can change your clamped numbers, might as well have left the gain wide open if you were just testing "burp watts". If you want, I had no problems on the SMD 18 in this box that was built for less power, the woofer took 3X the rated power daily, never got hot or stinky. Funny how I didnt kill this woofer (even tho you say it is clipping) when "Kickass Audio" blew a SMD sub with under 5000 watts, in a smaller box and had well under half the power I was pushing... I love the box build, I definitely do not have skills to do that. I'm not dogging you Brian, just pointing out that the sub isn't actually getting as much power as you think when playing music because music is SO much quieter than the tone you used to get clamped power. So saying the sub takes 3X rated isnt entirely accurate. can we just hug it out next time i see you?
audiofanaticz Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 can we just hug it out next time i see you? Sure
Lbox88 Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 can we just hug it out next time i see you? Sure Jeez guys, get a room why doncha UBL | Build Log
Decaf Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 can we just hug it out next time i see you? Sure I think my head is at your nipple height, win for you not for me, haha
audiofanaticz Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 well you could always drop down to your knees, and something else will be at your head height. More win for me and not for you bahahaha :drinks :
