SnowDrifter
I have 2 problems Red probe to positive, negative to amp chassis. When the distortion light comes on, it makes a purring sound (regardless whether my setup or in a car setup) Is it normal to make this sound? And the distortion light comes on when I turn the volume down, or if I turn it up too much (but not when the volume knob is in the center) Here is a video of my problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl9JnmqPWGA Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Lbox88
Sounds like the sound you get on an old TV when a capacitor starts to go. Quote UBL | Build Log
meade916
actually the sound isnt out of the ordinary to hear from an AMP when it it starts to clip. Thats why i want to know if he is testing the deck or the amp. It looks like the DD-1 is on top of the amp and the amp itself is making that noise. I have never seen a DD-1 buzz when it hits distortion so either you are pushing a crazy amount of clipping into that thing or its the amp. Either way, it is lighting up and indicating distortion when (whatever it is) is distorting so that doesnt seem to be a problem. so was that the amp you were testing or the deck? we can figure this thing out one way or another. I doubt there is anything wrong with the DD1 though. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! poorfish88
Can you post a better video showing what deck and amp is being used and how their hooked up. I believe this would help get the problem solved.

meade916
so do exactly what you were doing. Turn it up till you see the light stay on, dont worry about the light coming on in the beginning.....worry about the upper end of it. Back it down just below that and you shouldnt hear the buzz sound anymore. Then, put in the track you prefer (usually -5 on highs, -10 on bass) and turn the gain up till it distorts again. Back it off. Now you are done. Of course dont forget to put your x-overs back. You did have them turned all the way up (or the amp in FULL PASS mode) right? either way i dont see a problem here.
