Jason_D Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 right, i have 2 Sundown SAZ 3500's on what will soon be a 14v electrical system, so say 4.5 k per amp. now, do i keep my Level 5 DC's or upgrade to something with a 4" coil? The AA SMD for example. now the SMD will play all day on that power, where as ill have to keep a close eye on the DC's to make sure they dont cook. but the SMD with the bigger coil would be less efficient (i think??) What would be the best way to go? this is for a daily install (well a car i use at weekends and for shows) and it HAS to play music all day long. Any help, advice or experience would be great. Thanks
STEvil Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 efficiency is a product of moving mass vs motor capability. The DC might be more efficient at points where there is less movement, but as soon as you start to require more excursion the SMD is likely to win. Personally i'd just pick what fits your install requirements and tastes: killer lows or solid numbers. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. I think the smd will better fit that bill, and its a more musical sub too. You could also look into TC sounds stuff too. LMS 5400 may not take that much power all day but it'll kill the lows.
