Usually just a spark plugged put into the exhaust pipe to burn off the extra gases. Doesnt affect the car at all.

they actually have kits to do that somewhat safely it kills your engines rpms alittle cuzz it pumps unburnt fuel thru to a second ignition point (tailpipe with a sparkplug typically) to get that effect they sell them thru autoloc....

ive seen that happen on rx7 before but he held it at high rpm till the engine went wasnt a huge fire ball though

Rx7s are pretty well known for that. Just an fyi but you have to have an almost straight through exhaust without a ctalytic converter for it to work. I remember when the fuel injector in my old '93 blazer broke, it was dumping a ton of extra fuel through the intake manifold and shooting huge fireballs out the tailpipe. Its a sure way to get tailgaters off your ass.

not to sound like a know it all but i have owned many turbo cars. when you push high horsepower out of a engine there will always be excess gas. all that is happening here is that the gas in igniting when the blow-off valve opens. its not that harmful on a N/A car but for turbos it can be fatal

I used to shoot flames with my old Rx-7...Usually on Deceleration..I could put one out 3 ft...I loved riding at night..It was cool..

Flame thrower kits wash your cylinders down with gas which causes your oil rings to loose there seat the gas also mixes in the crank case doing bad things to your bottom end.
