audiofanaticz Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 you can alter the sound of a tweeter a lot by knowing how to set your amplifiers crossovers, or even better yet using a processor. Hell, even if your running with passive crossovers most have the ability to change the db level of the tweeter for your listening prefrence. Usually done by a jumper under the cover, or an extra screw terminal to make the tweeter -3, -6 db instead of 0db
SmallTruk Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I agree, crossover points have a lot to do with things. But doing a straight swap I've always found silk to be the least harsh compared to hard/metal domes. To get the harshness down with metal dome tweets I've usually had to cross them over higher.
Decaf Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Vifa XT25's, small format. Need to be very close to on-axis since they're a ring radiator. VERY nice sounding tweeter... x3 i have two in my ride now and i love em. off-axis by 30degrees driver, 15degress passenger and they still sound good, just doesnt have the uber detail on stuff above 10000hz. i'll be redoing my sail panels sometime soon so they will be on on-axis eventually (keep in mind thats on headunit power 2500hz@12db, no eq'n)
nascarguy301 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Selenium Super Tweets sound pretty good Bose = Buy other sound equipment. i love the rattle it's the best part! i need louder cheap amp any ideas?
Decaf Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 many would consider selenium/super tweets the harshest of all
Kevin M Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I have selenium 2500ti's in my ID horn bodies. They need gain matching and eq but they are pretty great after that. I would say I still prefer silk domes as my favorite sounding. A good ribbon or planar can be the best of both. Soft and articulate sound with dynamics. 2005 Ford Focus zx4 AMT's and Planars 18" Infinite baffle
CortezDTV Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 silk are gonna typically be a softer sound where the metal cone will give u that harsh or crisp that is for the most part some companies have switched that around SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/

Blackedout Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 Silk is going to be your best bet. Like everyone said though, the crossover plays a huge role in the brightness Trunk Build Log
