I decided to go and post this on here because I really would like to build myself a really nice home theater set up. I am think what I want to put together will be extremely loud. What I would like to do, is build 4 seperate towers, each having 5 speakers in them. A 12 inch sub for Really low, 1-around 30 Hz. A 10 inch sub for the 12s cutoff to around 70. Each of those subs would be within in their own chamber but just built together in the same box. This is where one of my questions comes in. What are good frequency crossover ranges for a 3 speaker set up, of around 70hz to about 20khz. I will have a 4inch woofer going from 70hz to the next crossover of about 300-500? From there I will have a 2" dome midrange from there into the 3k-5k? From that I will have a 3/4" Neo Dome Tweeter up to 20k or so. I just dont know where to cross over the the woofer to midrange and midrange to tweeter, What frequencies to use. The 4" woofer will be in its own chamer and be the 3rd and final chamber. Each of these 3 chambers will be ported. I will have a extra baffle on the front, and at the top where I will place the midrange and tweet, I will cut a grove in the wood between the front of the box and bottom of the baffle so that I can run their wire through the wood seal. So they wont be on the 3rd chamber and possibly alter the tuning of that chamber. If I wanted to go passive could I find, or even create my own 5 way crossover at the frequencies I want? I would prefer passive because it would be cheaper. As far as Active I think I would need to upgrade my room electrical because I would have to have atleast 5 seperate amps at minimum not including a active crossover. I would appreciate any input and suggestion comments and concerns about this. This will be a long project but I want to take my time at designing it to make sure I can get the best I possibly can. I will probably at some time, Get one of the 12s 10s and 4s so I can make boxes to test them and find out the best box tuning for full frequency range across their 3.

No. How big is your room? Do you have any sound treatment in this room?

IMO depending in your actual goals with this, it seems like it might be a little over complicated.

With that being said, a big project like this should be a big learning experience and a lot of fun.

About the passive x-overs, you wil probably need to make those yourself to have them adjusted to the specific drivers. To make smooth transitions between all those dreivers and to have them at the same levels. Not to easy but very doable.

My room is somewhat small, I can take a dimension when I get home, but it's a square. I do not have any sound treatment done. Any chance you go give me a link or point me in the direction of how to build a custom passive crossover. I know this project will be something that will take a lot of time and effort, but it will defintely be a good experience and fun. As I am sure once it is finished I'm sure I will be very happy.

How will a 4 inch midbass keep up with a 10inch sub from 70hz and up?

You're doing it all wrong, read some more things about home audio, more isn't always better.

I was thinking a 4in midbass would be a bit to small, I don't know why I chose that. I think I would like a 6 or an 8 more. I have tried to read up but can't find shit with my searches
