Yep, lost one. Went down fighting though. Coil was fine and wanted more but was starting to rub from the lack of support (blown cone).

I'll post up a bunch of pics here in a bit but the coil looked great, even after all the clipping and 0.25ohm abuse I was throwing at it.

These XL's can take a beating. Just came down to the weakest link.

Pretty amazing that the paper cones first cracked my box before going out themselves.

AR (Kevlar reinforced) recones coming.

Shit, with these now I'm getting worried at what else is inline to break.............

Thanks for the comments on the recone. I'm a little nervous, but I have some local guys with lots of experience to help me out.

Should be an interesting experience. If they come out great, then it'd be cool to tell people that I built them.

I've learned a LOT from scratch during this build so reconing would be another nice skill to have.

You know its bad when you say "I should save some money soon now that my car is almost done" ... And your girlfriend busts out laughing at you. Your predicament with the sub reminded me of that yesterday since your build is so close to being done and that crap happens. But my story It was 100% justified since I put a 650$ alternator on my card and forgot to save money to do something for her birthday in 6 days ... She just laughed and said she loves me regardless. (Best gf ever)

Well that's really too bad man, I remember your old separation of your box on the bottom curious the extent of the damage this time. AT least you got two trophies but it's too bad you couldn't beat the guy you've been against for months. Sucks having to pull subs again AND recone, UGH! More carnage pics.

Time to pull the sub and tear it apart.

Removed the tape which decided to finally get sticky as opposed to a week ago.

...and the dismantling begins.

First one is out which is no small feat in this angled and recessed baffle.

Took some cutting but I got the cone out.

Had a look at the coil. Not bad at all. I was clipping these guys pretty hard and the last few weeks at 0.25ohms I figured they'd be discolored a bit....but nope, it looks great.

These guys can take a beating.

I wanted to reuse the CF dustcaps so I had to do some more hacking to get them off.

This CA glue is no joke........

Both are pulled. Such a sad sight to see the box empty again.

Welp...I still have one sub working fine...but I need to recone both so they are equally strong and have the same suspension compliance. Soooo....

It was a battle prying the second cone out but here's what happens when you wall socket a coil.....yikes!

And a STINK that just don't go away.... Doubt I'll do that again.
