You will be very happy with your purchase on the Kenwood unit, I have ran Kenwood since I started driving. The new ones just keep getting better, everything now is built around the smartphone so it makes life so much easier, while driving. I hope you have triple AAA no room for getting that spare out now, thats a big box but it will damn sure sound good with the research you have done. Good luck on your build it looks like your off to a great start

I am liking the Kenwood more and more as I use it and figure out all the features. I just glanced at the manual-on-disk, 62 pages of audio, 84 pages of NAV... :trippy:

I've had roadside assistance since I got the car. M3's didn't come with spares, just a 12V air pump and the recommendation to get a bottle of green stuff.

Thanks for the comment, can't wait to hear this thing.................eventually.

Came home from work yesterday and tried to plug in my Sirius Tuner Module into the back of the Kenwood.

Apparently JB Weld isn't as great as I thought:

DINbracketreglue.jpg

My center console has been taken apart to install the Kenwood and I haven't gotten the Temp Controls back in yet.

If I don't turn on the A/C, my ductwork in the dash gets really hot, especially around the metal double DIN cutout that I had to install.

I guess it got warm enough for the JB Weld to soften up and my HU bracket came loose.

If it doesn't hold this time, then I'll probly end up taking it to a shop and have it re-welded.

Needless to say, but I'm jealous of you guys with large garages and welders...

So my dash is back to being a mess.

Speaking of center consoles and wire messes. Who out there has fussed with a PAC SWI-JACK for steering controls? :angry2:

I did for a good half-day. Wiring and programming and testing. Only to find that it caused my Alpine HU to continuously reset itself.

So I had to unplug it and not use it which I was not happy about.

I mentioned this to the rep who I bought the Kenwood from. He agreed about the SWI-JACK's being a nightmare to install and that they don't use them anymore.

He suggested an ASWC from Axxess Interface.

If they have an match for your car then there is NO programming or hassle.

You wire it in, turn on your key and the unit reads your vehicle and HU and programs itself.

In about 5 minutes I had all my audio buttons on my steering wheel working great! :drink40:

They're not cheap but I'd gladly pay twice the price for no hassle or headaches like I had with the SWI-JACK.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

What router bit did you use to round off those edges?

Looking great btw!

Thanks!

1/2" Roundover bit. So easy to use and leaves such a nice finish that you want to roundover EVERYTHING.

I had to hold myself back because I need some of the edges squared off in order to fit other trim panels and such.

Yep, routers are worth every penny, no question.

More good stuff coming...if I don't have to keep fixing little annoying crap that breaks...

I haven't done a lot of the stuff that I'm planning so I'm learning on the way. That means a bit of trial, error and coming up with your own tools or methods.
