SnowDrifter
what would be wrong with running 2 ohm? wouldnt that be correct for the amp and subs? Nothing. But that amp puts out 2500 at 1 ohm and 1700 at 2. So the extra effort and expense of wiring in another amp would only gain you 900 watts. Unless you were to run each amp at a half ohm which I would suggest against doing. bad_ass_car
what if i strapped the amps together? would that help with the ohm load? and thanks for your input snowdrifter! everyone else keeps getting pissed at me because i dont know terminology. im sorry im so frickin lazy according to you guys. you have to understand i was new to the site and had no clue about terminology. i just wish that other people could be more like you snowdrifter!!! Swordlordboy1234
Strapping the amps to make them (one amp) would let you get back down to the 1 ohm load that you wanna be at with your particular amp. When people ask for GOOD CHEAP things, let's just get easy money.. And burn fat while were sleeping. Sorry bro but just take a deep breath and buy a DC power, mechman or something as your alt. do your electrical, I'd go another battery or 2 (total of 3-4) and a upgraded alternator, 240+ amps. 5k watts is one of those numbers where it takes A LOT more to support it. Kinda like a 600 watt system vs a 1200 watt system, there not too far apart as far as power goes but one you can run almost off ALL stock stuff, and the other you need to do significant electrical upgrades. Your at that level, anything over 2500 and it's a big step. Make sure your electrical is up to snuff and then buy the 2nd amp and enjoy.... OR buy the second amp and just run it at a rediculously high ohm load (to not hurt anything, maybe 4 ohms each amp) until you get your electrical anyways. The moral of the story is, it takes power to make power bro. SnowDrifter
If it is strapped at 1 ohm, each amp would still see a half ohm. Think of it like this - the load is divided between the amps. You can run it at a half ohm, I run my amp at .5 daily, but be aware that you will need substantially stronger electrical and the risk of blowing the amp increases tremendously. Hence why me and others on this forum don't recommend it. We are aware of and willing to take the risk of the amp blowing up Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

bad_ass_car
thanks for putting it out in lamens terms for me swordlord. i think i got it now! would i be taking a chance of hurting my amp if i put 2 subs on each amp at 2 ohm? and i WILL be upgrading power electrical asap! diatribe
Clipping is distortion. distortion happens before clipping. Clipping is when the top and bottom of the signal wave is cut due to the amplifiers gain set too high. It is possible to do this and not have a high distortion output from the amplifier. Cardboardcat15
i have the stock alt. right now. ive been looking for a good deal on an upgraded alt. but nothing i could afford at the moment. whats a good cheap alt? Good and cheap don't go together. Remember that you get what you pay for. Take a look at DC Power/Mechman/Singer/Ohio Generator for alternators.
