If u kept ur box as is and just moved the baffle an inch or so I bet u see massive gain, the sealed section will hold the suspention in place.... Sorry u don't wanna try it it would work It would require a new box to get a 3:1 ratio. The sealed side would stay the same, but would just get a larger ported section. Shouldn't have any issues with power handling though since the sealed side is staying the same.
CortezDTV Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Jeeze jump on my ideas Let me explain... before everyone just bashs my comment Invert subs first so if they ever do get hot u would be able to smell, (in my opionon having them in the sealed section is just asking for trouble! Espically when overpowering) then move the baffle that .75 u got, or 1 inch, this would basically get u your 3 to 1 make it harder to hurt the woofers , and then test with same port then, change ur tuning on paper my box is tuned in the 50s, peaking at 44 so u can always change the port as well, all thoes things are a lot of work but much less than building a new ported or 4th order box, and will show u what ur subs like Everyone here knows ur current box is never ur last no matter how good.... you live and learn might as well use the old boxes as much as you can before u scrap them! ( by scrap I mean turn into work benches, chicken laying boxes, router tables, scrap wood haha) This wouldn't choke ur port Im just going of my experience, I've had pretty good luck considering my 2 15s do 145 with 900 watts clamped and do 150.1 with all my power 6k clamped so were very similar is power, and "design" right now my ratio is only about 2.5:1. quakecitystudio Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 In comparison, 5 8s - cone area - 251.2 2 12s - cone area - 226.08 Can't really say much about power because we don't know what she was putting to the 8s, but I can say that the 12s will be getting more than each 8 did alone. She's able to build a "bigger" box with more configuration with the 12s. Also, she has different wiring configurations for the 2 12s instead of having to wire all 5s, so We'll just have to see how this goes and hope for the best for her.
