Sealed box specs for Alpine SWR-1242D.

I have a bunch of 3/4 inch MDF board and am building a sealed enclosure for my 2 Alpine Type R's. Everyone says that they are better ported, but I want them in a sealed box. If they don't sound good, I will build a ported box. I have plenty of MDF. I think Alpine's specs are too small (0.57-1.00 cubic feet per sub) What is a good volume for these subs. I've heard they are good in a 1.6 cubic feet per sub, but I don't know. So what is the ideal sealed box volume for these subs?

Isobaric in a deathbox. http://www.decware.com/newsite/dbk12.htm

I have had a single type R in one of these and it sounds amazing (for a single type R).

It's basically a bandpass. The site calls it a baffled asymetrical blah blah blah. It is a neat design though. I used 3/4 hardwood ply and its very sturdy. After you make it you can adjust the tuning point in the car, then pull it out and lock the inner baffle in place. They suggest a couple of screws. I used epoxy all over the place.

If you make one of these I recommend adjusting the internal dimensions to 12.5" I mad mine exactly 12" and had to later mod the inside of the box to accept the rubber gasket that comes on the subs. Also, use t-nuts for the speaker mount holes. I have eaten up the mount spot over the past 15 or so years...still have the box.

It has an EBP of 58 so it could be used on sealed, and Alpine in fact gives a spec for sealed, and that is 0.78 cubic feet of net internal volume.

No one of the few that have tried (to my knowledge) has liked the results. You could be the first one though..

Any particular reason you want sealed? As in you're limited in space or something along those lines?

Random fact, that was your 1,337th post.
