Recommended Posts

the box is tuned to 30hz

and i need a answer....

DOES A SUBWOOFER REALLY NEED A BREAK IN PERIOD?

just asking cause i would like to beat the hell of it from the start..

sometimes when i have a new sub that has an absurdly stiff suspension i run it free air at 20hz for a few minutes, starting low volume working to high. usually no more than a couple minutes. then i install it and beat the living fuck out of it.

Well, there IS a break in period, but I don't know why people tote it as a good thing, like Zapanater said, the suspension is stiff at first, so it will get slightly louder the longer you've used it, maybe 1 to 2 dB is what I noticed on my 2 P3's, so not much. But that also means the accuracy will slowly decrease. It's a tradeoff...

A kid I know says he's running 3000 watts to an MTX sub. I kept my expectations low since most people think MAX is what the amp produces.

Look in his car, amplifier is not only a BOSS, but says 3000 watts max, 500 watts rms... WHAT?!

i wont meter it + there is just for listening and ...ehm..testing...some things...i already know that 2 12s sound lowder than my XXX 18˝ when playing tones in a 28hz box(both set ups had a box that was 28hz)

but the XXX 18˝shake´d the living hell out of the poor car

depends the kind of sub...if its already got a loose suspension...take it easy for a good hour then rail on it afterwards. if you have SUPER STIFF suspension you will HAVE to break in the suspension on easy play for at least a week of solid play. i knocked spiders off the landings of one of my Neos and one of my Level 6s by not breaking them in properly and just railing on them. i fixed them by reglueing them down and breaking them in properly. so yes a break in period is necessary in most instances but length i break in period varies
