did you break it in at all? if not then that can happen to cones when the suspension is too stiff and it causes the cone to fold like that...that or over excursion and unloading

For 3-4 days. Just had the gain barely turned up

hmmm weired. ive seen this happen before to an XL but they kid didnt break them in at all AND played a hella low note which caused that to happen

In most cases I would say back presssure i.e. in my spl boxes at 2800 watts I fold cones like a champ hence the reason I glass the cones so I can take advantage of the 7k+ the box is capable of generating.

In this instance (I could be wrong) the box appears to be to big causing over excursion and stressing the cone until it gives out. The dustcap is a good indicator of this as well as the stress marks(creases) on the cone.

If your feeling adventerous you could glass matt the cone and glue surround back to it and of course gorilla tape the surround. My best advice would be to recone the sub then adjust the ssf up some to limit power to the sub as its fairly clear to me that its at its mechanical limits in that box.

He said 412 CVX designed the box. 412 CVX is pretty good about designing to specs of the woofer. Unless OP altered specs or asked for bigger box? I firmly believe it should be within range.

I would take your comment with a grain of salt. Wasn't he the same one that had the 4th order that did the EXACT same thing as this sub minus the crease in the cone? I'm pretty damn sure it was him. But we will go by your comment that hes pretty good about designing to specs.. I'll take that just as much as i would take a sealed box with 45's in the corner..

i also know hes not supposed to be charging for designs here as well.. I would really hate to do some digging and find out that he is in fact selling designs on the forum. Remember when I strike I kill. You think n8 has skillz, there is a reason why I stay in the shadows!

I'm not just talking out my ass. I have experience with his designs and recheck just for the hell of it and its right on. I'm just stating he knows what he's doing from personal experience. Take my comment as you want but I know for sure he's reputable. As for a 4th order doing the same thing I have no idea. Never heard of it from him. Maybe maybe not.

This is definitely not to put down 412 cvx. He's a great guy and I would hate to be the reason for him to get in trouble.

How does breaking in the suspension affect the cone? The suspension will change how quickly/forcefully the cone will return to center, but how can that cause it to tear on the surround?
