Suddenly popping inline 40a fuses.

So I started tearing into stuff didn't find any probs with the wiring so I stuck in a bigger fuse and sub coil fried.

I have a Rockford 600.1 amp that has 2 30a fuses on the side.

For the last 3 weeks I have been playing my system pretty hard and everything has been fine. It was tuned with a DD-1.

Now all of the sudden today I have blown my 40a inline fuse running off my battery. I replaced it with another 40a fuse and 5 minutes later it popped again. Why? What should I do?

The only thing that changed was that my battery died and I jumped started it at a Jeep show I was at today. But it blew about 2 hours after that.

Your post should have answered your own question...Upgrade to at least an 80A fuse. By running too small a fuse, you've probably caused some failures or other issues with your amp or subs. Luckily, fuses pop, or fires could be started.

sucks you blew your sub, but what was the amp putting out, i mean, shouldn't a DD1500 series hold up to that?

woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked

If you went from not blowing a fuse, to blowing a fuse (undersized or not), you need to use a multimeter and check for a short to ground. You can also measure the resistance across the load. If something messed up and your resistance suddenly dropped (coil short?), you will be pulling more amperage.

I did check for a short to ground but i got nothing. But I do know for a fact my sub is now screwed up..

So you had a dead battery. I'm just wondering why it went dead. Lets just speculate that your alternator is dead, now you have a voltage issue, low volts to amp=clipping=fried coil.

I have a couple of questions.

Do you have more than one battery?

Is your Alternator still working?

Do you know what your voltage is when playing?

And also , put up pics of your connections, power, ground, ect.. get as many pics as you can, like where the amp is grounded, where your battery(s) are grounded, where the power wire hooks to the battery.

if you don;t know how to post pics, just upload to photobucket or flicker and copy the image url and paste it in your reply.
