OrionStang
This might be dumb, but is little to no voltage drop bad? Meaning, is my amp not working to its full potential? Indication of very bad rise? My cars voltage is PCM controlled and ususally sits between 13.7-14.1 at idle. Idling up does not effect it. With the DD M3a and Sundown 200.4 playing full volume, I am only seeing a .1-.2 drop. I only have one D6500 and a DC 270XP. I would think those two amps would pull more than that. OrionStang
Do you have a clamp meter? No, I need to clamp it. I feel like I have a major rise problem. Even with the 7.5k and 200.4, it would only drop to 13-13.1 Quote SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
ch0sen
a clamp meter or a DMM, put the dmm on ohms and watch it while you play music, if you have bad rise you'll see it there Quote My current 95 Jetta Build w/ pioneer h/u 2 RD Sonance 10's with flatwind coils 2 Audiopipe apsm 1500.1s 1 Hifonics Brutus Elite 60x4 1 XS d925 1 Stinger spv35 1 1000 amp lead acid 50 ft of 0/1 ofc from Audiotechnix all powerbass components, and coaxils, 4 sets buildlog = http://www.stevemead...2-rd-10s-build/ My build for my wife. http://www.stevemead...01-f-150-build/
SnowDrifter
put the dmm on ohms and watch it while you play music That wouldn't work. ch0sen
I could be wrong but i thought that if you put your dm on the + and - of the amp to see the final ohm load when you play music you can see the ohm rise. HatersGonnaHate
No, you see the change in resistance through the coils. You can see what I'm talking about if you've got a speaker laying around.... Hook up positive and negative leads to the speaker terminals, push down on the cone and watch the ohms rise. CaPRiCEx383
I was just wondering about this today too. I don't ever see under 14.0 while driving and i charge at 14.1 - 14.3.. Stupid car does stay at 12.5 though but only drops to 12.4 full tilt. Wicks
No voltage drop is ideal IF you truly have that much current capacity. If you're suspicious of the drop then it may be that you're not drawing as much current as you should on paper. Need a clamp. Is there any chance your voltmeter is defective? Maybe it's not reading correctly? Also DON'T use an ohmmeter on an energized circuit. Most DMM's (ohmmeter) have protection but certain ones can be damaged. To measure resistance, DMMs apply a small voltage and measure how much current goes through the device being measured to calculate the resistance. If the circuit or device is energized, then it will throw off the reading.
