child endangerment by loud car stereo system

Recommended Posts

It is one thing to play it for someone 13+ imo. I am gonna guess that I probably hit around the 145-147 range and I give demos to all of my friends little brothers and sisters. They don't cover their ears. If anything, they laugh at all the air moving and the vibrations. With that being said, however, it is extremely dangerous to play such a loud sound in a cab like that for a 3 year old. Everybody here can probably agree with me that 145 hz is probably where small hairtricks start. That wasn't necessarily a small hair trick. So lets just say he hits 147 hz. Think of how loud that was the first time you heard it. First time I heard it, I couldn't breathe as good as I wanted to (I could still breathe fine, but i was also 17, not 3 years old.), I covered my ears, and my vision was impaired. Now imagine all of that for a 3 year old. If I was 3 years old, I would panic if I couldn't see straight. Granted this girl took it like a champ (makes me think she is used to it), it is most definitely abusive. You guys can say Movie Theatres and Rock Concerts are loud, but tell me this. How many of those car cabs can you fit into a movie theatre or a stadium?

I wont let my daughter get in my truck... But i did let her get a demo in Matts car. It was short. My daughter will tell me if the radio in our jeep is too loud. But she will also tell us to turn up her songs. So it goes to show that you need to make the proper decisions for your children.

there is a BIG difference between A-Weighted SPL and C-Weighted. Google it.

150db of Bass from woofers with lots of air movement is no where near as bad as standing near a PA at a concert doing 125.

This is why you can be in my ride @ 156 plus and be fine, just a little shaken up.....but if you go to a concert and are anywhere close to the stage, your ears ring for 3 days after its over.

I would never do anything to harm a kid. Every kid who ever got in, WANTED and ASKED to get in, with the parents permission and they almost always get out with a bigger smile on their face then if they were just on a ride at Disneyland.

now do i think its OK for a kid under 5 or 6, or an animal like a dog or a cat to be in there? HELL NO. But a young kid who WANTS to get in and has two fingers to plug his ears should be ok. I usually have ear protection for them too.

I really feel like you guys are making a big deal out of nothing on this one. And I would have to agree that the movies and countless other activities are just as loud. Why the big deal when it's in a car?

little kids hearing is much more sensitive than adults hearing.

Not trying to be a dick or anything here, but do you have a source for that information?

Seriously Man. there is a reason why schools do check ups on kids hearing, vision and others physical checks. to make sure they are developing the right way. If there is something damaging there hearing at an early age, then that damage will be permanent as they grow up.

And yes there are activites that are loud like a 150+db sound system like monster truck rallies, racing events. etc. but that is also why they sell ear muffs for kids at those events.

I was just about to say something about how all those "safety limits" are based on "A" weighted levels not "C" weighted. I wonder if there are some tests somewhere dealing with pressurized cabins and hearing loss

edit:

here is something, its a start. i will look for more
