MrSandman Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 I have had a Rockford R500-1 for over a year now, I sold the 2 P1 12" subs that i bought when I bought the amp a few months ago today i bought a P3 15" 4 ohm dvc and I wired it to 2 ohms, everything was working fine and about a hour into having it installed I started smelling hot plastic, so upon inspecting the amp it was hot to the touch so I pulled the sub to make sure it was wired correctly and the back of the sub was pretty hot also. RooTxBeeR Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 What was the nominal impedance of the old subs, if it was 1-ohm, switching from 1 ohm to 2 ohm, will be effected differently by the gain. Should reset gains when ever there is a sub change. soundstream15 Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Your gain might be a little to high, how did you set it? Your shouldn't be having that much voltage drop with 500rms but playing clipped music isn't good esp if your signal is already clipping
gt58 Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 youre trying to power a 1000ish rms sub with a "500" rms amp?? im assuming your gains and bass boost were all the way up
