That was not roughing the passer

The qb was running away he dove if the ball was still in his hand it would be a sack I guess d has to break the rules of phsics and stop himself in mid air not to hit the qb no matter what

read the rules please, article 13 section 2 and section 5

ROUGHING THE PASSER

Article 13 Because the act of passing often puts the quarterback (or any other player attempting a pass) in

a position where he is particularly vulnerable to injury, special rules against roughing the passer apply. The

Referee has principal responsibility for enforcing these rules. Any physical acts against passers during or

just after a pass which, in the Referee’s judgment, are unwarranted by the circumstances of the play will

be called as fouls. The Referee will be guided by the following principles:

PASS LEAVING PASSER’S HAND; ONE-STEP RULE

(1) Roughing will be called if, in the Referee’s judgment, a pass rusher clearly should have known that the

ball had already left the passer’s hand before contact was made; pass rushers are responsible for

being aware of the position of the ball in passing situations; the Referee will use the release of the ball

from the passer’s hand as his guideline that the passer is now fully protected; once a pass has been

released by a passer, a rushing defender may make direct contact with the passer only up through

the rusher’s first step after such release (prior to second step hitting the ground); thereafter the rusher

must be making an attempt to avoid contact and must not continue to “drive through” or otherwise

forcibly contact the passer; incidental or inadvertent contact by a player who is easing up or being

blocked into the passer will not be considered significant.

UNNECESSARY ACTS AGAINST PASSER

(2) A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as “stuffing” a

passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the

ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided

for in (1) above. When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after

throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on

top of him with all or most of the defender’s weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap

up or cradle the passer with the defensive player’s arms

HITTING PASSER’S KNEE

(5) A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one

or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is

blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him;

regardless it was a penalty. rules have changed a lot and all the hard hits we loved to watch are now illegal and will get a penalty. if i remember correctly the QB was hit below the knee there for it was a penalty

You should watch the replay agin he started his dive when the ball was still in his handJust saying I'm done I don't like ether team the refs are sorry and fucking up the game that's my only opinion on this thread

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

The below the knee thing is meant for quarterbacks standing in the pocket, not running away from a defender. That was a bad roughing the passer call no matter how you look at it. Plus, he gets him before he takes a single step after throwing the ball and he was diving before he threw the ball.

Don't have time and don't truly wanna search the net for videos of exact same situations. but there ya go champ.

And I agree that OPI should be called, even last play of the game, but the nature of the beast is that they usually aren't. I think if it can be called on the first play, should be called on the last play.

It's funny that you try to defend Tate's blatant OPI with hand fighting (1st video) and with a slight crash during a cut (2nd video). Both those videos could easily be argued as DEFENSIVE pass interference.

That's about the best I can do. Ain't searchin the net for hours for that. OPI is called, when it occurs unless horrible refs. But... when it does happen on the final play, doesn't really get called. Can't find his name but a retired official was in the booth during that, talking to Jon Gruden and the camera and he said those words. Can't find his name, video anything.

Again, how can you even begin to compare Tate's situation with this videos?

Both players looking up in this vid, and working towards a better position. In this vid is looked like the receiver had to somewhat run through the defender to get in position to catch the ball, the defender can't really use himself as a way to stop the reviver from getting into position because that would make it a DEFENSIVE pass interference, so again, nothing like this situation.

And about the other comment, no vid, no name, and you're the only that has even mentioned that....don't think so. Haha

read the rules right

unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the

ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided

or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is

when the QB is out the pocket they dont have to cradle yet hitting bellow the knee is still a penalty. NFL is all about protecting the players

because it was still a offensive pass interference. only the first 5 yards the players are allowed to push and shove any beyond is OPI or PI

Not really.

Guy didn't push, he continued to run his route. Tangle ups like those tend to get called as PI not OPI though.

Who cares anymore? The refs are back, the Packers will make the playoffs, and the Seahawks will go back their 7-9, mediocre ways.

Not a fuckin chance, dude. Seahawks go 11-5 or better this year. Have you not seen their defense play? You're insane.
