Looking for an amp for mids and highs.

5/6 channel, will be running fully active

Looking for:

50-100 watts RMS x4 (at 4 ohm)

+100-300 watts RMS x2 (1-4 ohm)

Low THD, will be going for SQ over SPL

budget 200-250.

MOST IMPORTANT

must have bandpass filter on channels 3,4.

HPF on channels 1 & 2 (for tweets)

Personal experience I was using the Alpine PDX5 and it was a pretty solid amp....just wasn't pushing things quite enough so (and really against my will) I decided to give the JL HD900/5 and as much as it pains me to say it....love it! I had very minimal space for the amp under the seat, and it pushes my SA8V2 damn good! If I was going to buy another 5 channel I would defnitely go with it again.

You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. Quality takes time and dedication, but the end results more than pay for it.

That budget will not even come close to anything near SQ.

This is what you want if your willing to save for it.

LOL the Leviathan is over the use and a class D amp, class D and SQ :rofl2: .

Class AB sound´s much better than the never fat and warm class D technic amps.

If you want a SQ 6 channel here you are http://www.trutechnology.com/products.htm.

Another option!

If you can find a used one http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDISON-SR5-5-CHANNEL-AMPLIFIER-BRAND-NEW-IN-BOX-WITH-WARRANTY-/140861804886?pt=Car_Amplifiers&hash=item20cc049156. I stay to my guesses, for your budget you will have alot of fun with one of them.

The RF Prime 5 channel http://www.ebay.com/...=item19d5c83b02, Inage Dynamics http://www.ebay.com/...=item3ccb4d74d3, the US Amps is a nice one http://www.ebay.com/...=item337cd1e0fb here the specs http://www.bicostere...&productId=4518,

JL Audio http://www.ebay.com/...=item416c850792, cheaper JL http://www.ebay.com/...=item27cbc7a507, Soundstream Rubicon, Rubicon series is well known in the forum http://www.ebay.com/...=item2ec1eb0b91.

My personaly guesses in a row, JL audio, Us Amps, Rubicon

out of all of the amps that you have listed here, the only one that has a bandpass filter on channels 3/4 is the soundstream Rubicon. I do like it, and as of right now, it is my top choice.

I want to make it clear that I'm not going for an all-out, spend thousands, SQ build. Just trying to say that I'm looking for a class A/B amp with good SQ.

The leviathan is a great amp, and if I had the cash, I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat, but I see no need to drop 800+ on an amp for mids and highs. I am picky, but not that picky.

whatever you do, don't tell the people winning SQ with class D amps. They might get mad that class D won't work.

My favo would be the Audison, but you can blame that on brandhugging as I didn't hear this particular amp. Helix comes to my mind aswell.

The suggestion of 2 seperate amps is a smart one in case of future upgrade paths. I have a six channel amp and am very happy, but make sure you don't feel the urge to upgrade afterwards, as that would mean selling an amp that's not really hot on the market.

Amp: Audison VRX 6.420
