wellington Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 In a discussion on a car specific forum about JL's Most people on the forum have custom installs of kicker, polk, and other various garbage. I know I have a JL right now but it's the first sub I bought and still going (soon to be replaced) Anyways, my opinion on JL: Looks better than it performs. Sort of like apple product, they put more effort into making them look sexy (dust cap, etc) Extremely over priced, but then again, a 360w rms 12" form polk is $200 at frys, so I guess they are ALL over priced. JL seems the worst of the offenders IMO don't get my wrong, my 12w3 is fine, but for $250 I could have got a lot better. $500 for the 12w7? 1000w rms for $500? And their 1000w rms amp is $500? $1000 for a 1000w rms 12" and 1000w rms amp? I don't get it. Please feel free to post subjected opinions at will. All I ever get are "show me some proof that these DD, DC, etc subs are decent, blah blah" I've heard 2 DD's in person and one Fi q 10" and that was only 5 minutes total and even before that I understood that these underground brands are built tougher for competition situations, unlike the consumer brands. zydrix Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 JL audio is good, but i would never run JL audio. they are way to expensive for my taste, for the price of a W7, i can go pick up a DC level 4 with Xl upgrade,a sundown z, FI sp4. there are so many brands out there sub wise that i feel are so much better for the price. but it all comes down to what U like an what U want to get. Max1636 Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 People say their overpriced but JL make very good quality products but they focus more on high quality sound rather than loud sound. revoracing247 Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 i don't think i'd buy them new with my own money cause yeah they're expensive and i would go fi or something. but i got two old style 12w3 for $50 extra when i bought an amp and well running one in a t-line right now and im pretty happy with how much air it moves and how much a beating it can take. though i got them with no dust cap and had to replace them but yeah, im happy with what i have experienced with them. ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
Skullz Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 With JL your paying a premium for the patents that they hold on their subs period. They're great subs that sound damn good, but for what your paying for it really doesn't justify the cost they are asking. I used to run them years ago when the first W3's came out and loved them, they sounded amazing and took a damn beating. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
K_SubieXT Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 I don't really have a problem with the performance but in all honesty I find jl equipment kind of boring. When ever I think about their subs or amps I don't get that awesome feeling I get from the equipment I like to run. Raptorman Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Very good subs, very well built. Just overpriced for their performance categories IMO. kirill007 Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 There aren't a lot of other brands who offer the same quality. They focus on SQ, not loudness. The W6 is one of the best sounding subwoofers ever made. Look at how old the subwoofer actually is, the design was ahead by years and still is on the top. It does come at a price, but look at audison amps, they also cost quite a bit. 500 dollars for 1000W isn't that much to me. Where i live you pay 500 dollar for a cheap 1000W amp. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
Guest Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 i see it like this. when i think of JL i think of Monster. overpriced as all fucking hell, but works well.
MrSkippyJ Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 my JL systems have been the best sounding systems of mine, not gonna lie. Yup, it all cost a bit more but it isn't just paying for a name, you are paying for a very high quality piece of equipment. Nowadays, it is worth it to me to lose some quality of the sound for a good bit of volume so I have what I have now.
