What's the rca voltage output of your hu rated at? Set the gain to that is the simplest way to be in the safer zone. Or use a dmm to measure the dc output of the rcas

preouts output AC voltage. not DC. and AQ amps only have the max voltage and min voltage listed on the gain knob range on the side of the amp.

Did you buy the amp used? Sounds like it if you don't have a remote bass knob. Could have had issues prior to being sold

I have a sony cdx-gt300. Crutchfield has the preout voltage as N/A, so I'm not sure.

you say you have a voltage meter, hook it up directly to the amp, you need to see what the amp is seeing.

so the amp was allowed to slide around willy nilly? thats not healthy at all....

Thanks!! I know I need a new HU now lol. The amp does not slide around however it is angled to where there is no movement, but there is a little unnecessary pressure on my rca cables' ends because of it.

Got home, turned the gain down. Didn't notice the gain is backwards compared to my other amp. I already slapped myself so you guys don't have to, thanks for all the help.
