They give a timeframe. #2- carriers will still unlock it for you as long as you are out of the contract phase. So if you just go buy an iphone or whatnot without the service plan, they probably will. not a big deal. I am with n8 though, the individual owns it but told what they can and can't do with it. While what you say makes sense there are many who are jumping carriers becasue they got screwed on an aspect of their contract. They undertstand they will not have full speed to go to a nother network but they are out of a bad situation. or say i want to give my phone to my wife. Well now I cant just switch the cards and be on our way. It may in fact be legal. There are alot of aspects and scenarios that might pop up and they could have a very valid reason to unlock your phone.
