OrionStang
THis is probably dumb, but I thought about it earlier today. Does deadener get old? Like lose effectiveness over time? Would it need to be replaced or added to after many years? Quote SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
emperorjj1
i dont see how a butly deadener like second skin could. asphalt ya but honestly that was never a good deadener to begin with Quote J. ChevyBoy95
in reality just think of the materials used and the break down time that would have to follow. but i get what you mean, i have seen old car with stock "deadener" that is all cracked up and janky looking. Jessica
The stuff in the hatch of my honda is cracking and will break loose from the body if i run a screw driver under it. But its stock deadener and it's like 25 years old. Quote Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. My super random youtube channel and terrible camera work. 03 Xtreme Fosgate
My dynamat xtreme is 5 yrs old and still "soft" now. I don't really expect my SS B-stock to last as long as that or the pro/A-stock would. 03 Xtreme Fosgate
yeah it's kind of thin but I noticed it has a kind of stiff/hard feeling to begin with but I'm not complaining $85 for 32 sq ft Quote BUILD LOG-http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179004-03-s10-xtreme-ext-cab-rf-build/ PHOTOBUCKET- http://s1354.beta.photobucket.com/user/03XtremeFosgate/library/truck%20audio%20rebuild
03 Xtreme Fosgate
It's still worth the money,it goes down w/o a mess and smooths out once you start forming/rolling it. Next time I'll get the Damplifier or the pro series to try it out. I'm sure this won't be my last purchase from SS. I'm gonna be doing my cousin's install after a few months in a civic and I'm sure going to be getting the SS for it. Second Skin Rep Jon
A quality butyl deadener, such as the ones mentioned in this thread, rarely if ever need replaced since they really don't break down or contain compounds that degrade over time. Products that contain high amounts of fillers or certain compounds (such as natural tar or bitumen) do breakdown, gas out, and degrade with even the simplest of changes in temperature or even exposure to the environment (air). So to answer your question, some deadeners do get old and lose their effectiveness and others don't. Personal experience, going on 7-8 years with ZERO degradation with my original Damplifier Pro.
