How can a car suck so badly, that box improvements gain nothing?!

I have a car sitting here, which has had multiple setups in it. its a smallish hatchback.

One install was doing about 144dB off a 1500watt amp, two 12inch subs....

The same box and subs were put in a different car, box was modified, rounded, flared, etc, and gained about 2dB in the other car.

Put it back in the first car, 144dB....

Same subs off about 3000watts gained basically nothing over the 1500watts in the first car, even though in the second car they gained about 2dB with double the power...

How is this possible?!?

Same two 12inch subs in a 3rd car, same 1500watt amp, 2.6dB louder in a much larger car! and at 10Hz lower?!

Seriously, how can a car fail so badly?!

You modified the box for something completely different and got the result you were looking for in that application, now trying to go back to the original car with the modified will no longer work as it was tuned and designed for that cars application. Make another box that was the same as the one you had prior or designed more for the subs and power you will put to them in this configuration, but in this hobby it is build see what happens, build see what happens and rinse and repeat as many times as it may take to find the right combination.

Interference and harmonics could be part of it........but theres a plethora of factors so it's difficult to tell

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

Because the modifications don't work in the hatchback.

Every car likes different things.

(Just like everyone was already saying.)

how can you say that modifications that are known to help with spl "don't work in the hatchback"? if SPL modifications don't work, are you suggesting I should try modifications to make it quieter...

modifications don't work just because someone says so. a 'known modification' can help in one car, and that same modification can hurt in another car. everything is a variable. sure it may be quieter with certain mods you do. that's why you test them as you go and if they do hurt, take them off. i wouldn't have been surprised if you said you gained SPL in the van, and lost SPL in the hatchback.

i know you didn't, i'm just saying that i wouldn't have been surprised if you did because that's just how car audio works lol. and i wouldn't think it would, but it's possible. i've seen where deadening a car hurt scores, 45's hurt scores, etc. things that *should* have helped, didn't.

i read in a sig somewhere, "welcome to the world of SPL, where nothing makes sense."

lol my guess would be port configuration. playing with that alone can get you more than 3 db.

Huh... So you did move the port :P

i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah..

You want this to happen to you? Give decent handshakes people.
