Hellbilly429 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 So I have built a couple boxes since my first one, 1 for my sister And 1 for my Fiance (WIll take a new pic with sub installed) Now both of these setups have a much flatter response than my setuphad, and higher output except for when it came to the lows (which is bscause one is a 200wrms boston g110, and the other is a 400wrms 12"kicker solo baric L3). My question is wtf am I doing wrong? Does my boxhave too much port area to have a good response? Is my deck too shittyto give me output? I have a hard time believing this because I amrunning my Fiance's system off of her stock stereo as it is in a 2010Kia Forte. I mean I even have a soundstorm 7 band eq hooked up to my ampto boost lower frequencies and cut out the higher ones before theyreach the amp (and I know this isn't the problem as my sister's car hasthe same eq and her shit sounds good). Any suggestions or enlightenment on this situation is muchappreciated, I feel like I might try building a new box with 14"^2 perft^3 of port vs the 15"^2 per ft^3 to try as I am waiting for my amp tocome back. And I posted here instead of the subwoofer/enclosure category because I am not sure if it is an enclosure issue or not. knubs Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 i'm kind of confused here on what your complaint is? what exactly is the problem? is it that your sub won't hit it's higher range like you want?
Hellbilly429 Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Yeah, it's response to anything but rap is pathetic, I listen to a lot of metal and I get barely any output with metal, not sure if it is an issue with my box or an issue with my equipment. I know that both of the other boxes I have built respond quite well to metal with the equipment my sister and my fiance are running, but I am running more watts and a higher powered sub and I feel like I should be able to feel and hear the sub while playing metal a lot better than I am now 2018 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback (build in progress) NVX Sound Deadener (Front Doors) Stinger FAST Rings Stock Electrical SSA Evil 6.5's Front Speakers Stock rear speakers MB Quart ONX4.80 speaker amp Rockford Fosgate T-1500bdcp DC Level 4 12" D1 @ 2-ohm Box In Design Stage Stock RadioMy Build Log
RooTxBeeR Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 I honestly think metal music plays better with less port or a bigger box. Atleast in my experience. My first box i ever built, was 33Hz tuned and around 13sqin of port, could play some korn songs pretty nicely. Now I have a new box, smaller box, lower tuning, and higher port area, and the lows are horrible. skittlesRgood Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 everyone's car always sounds better than yours. it's the curse of the game. Hellbilly429 Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 lol, I hear ya, but it almost sounds like my sub is free-airing when I play metal, like maybe I just need to reduce the size of my port area so it can have better control for that fast pace beat. My system is all yanked out right now as I wait for my amp to come back from warranty so I was trying to figure out in the meantime what I should do to improve. Now when you say try crossing it over a bit, what exactly do you mean? I have a cheap deck so if you are talking about messing with the crossovers on that I don't have the ability to. My deck only has a rear speaker out, not an actual "sub" out too, so it doesn't let me mess with the pre-out levels, just low/mid/high/loudness/fade/balance/sound-retrieval options to adjust on this thing, which is why I am not sure if I should invest in a new deck first or screw with the box first or what. If I didn't have 2 jobs and had time and money I would just replace everything and call it a day, lol 2018 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback (build in progress) NVX Sound Deadener (Front Doors) Stinger FAST Rings Stock Electrical SSA Evil 6.5's Front Speakers Stock rear speakers MB Quart ONX4.80 speaker amp Rockford Fosgate T-1500bdcp DC Level 4 12" D1 @ 2-ohm Box In Design Stage Stock RadioMy Build Log
skittlesRgood Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 is the RCA out on the deck set to "sub"? there is usually a setting for that. knubs Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 is the RCA out on the deck set to "sub"? there is usually a setting for that. please correct me if wrong, but even if an rca output on the deck is labeled 'sub' doesn't it still put out the same signal as the normal rca output?
