Trey_Dog650 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 couple dumb dumbs on here can say im wrong but cant prove it, maybe they cant do math?Obviously don't know what the formula for surface area is. And now you called me dumb dumb. P4killer_ Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 if im wrong then prove me wrong ....example 2 18s will be 36 inches for 2 woofers vs 3 12s is 36 inches. more cone area less woofers ass! Cone area is calculated like you would area of a.circle. it doesn't take into account the depth of.the cones.but that is negligible. Pie x r^2 so for a single 18 its 3.14 x 81 = 254 in. Now the easy way is as follows: Comparing say 2 18s vs 3 12s 2( 3.14 x 9^2) vs 3(3.14 x 6^2) since pie is common to both equations you could just cancel it out Just square the radius and multiply by number of woofers to tell which has more cone area. It's not the right number until you multiply by pi but you still have an equivalent ratio for comparison. So any way. I'm just Like 3 twelves = 36x3 = 108 2 18s = 81x2 = 162 108/162 =.66 meaning 2 18s is 33% more cone area than 3 12s. Which is a lot dif than your 36 to 36 less woofers comparison. Every time you double you cone area ie:. 1 12 to 2 12s or 100 in of cone to 200 in of cone. Theorhetically you increase by 3db. This almost never happens in the real world. But 33% more cone theorhetically nets you a 1db gain. In real life you'd be lucky for that. But anyway I digress. john253a Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Saying 18's have 18" cone and 12's have 12" 9x9x(22/7) x2off 510sq" 6x6x(22/7) x4.5off 510sq" 2x 18 is 10net average 4.5x 12 is 9net average but more displacment So both boxes will be about the same size On same power all should be = But the 12 if same brand am mdl should take more power hence be louder
Bump4life Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 did this guy call me an ass? either way its just another know it all noob to the forum. trying to argue a point that has been argued many times before by people just like him. Eric Foreman Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 that math dont work on square subs! if im wrong then prove me wrong ....example 2 18s will be 36 inches for 2 woofers vs 3 12s is 36 inches. more cone area less woofers ass!Cone area is calculated like you would area of a.circle. it doesn't take into account the depth of.the cones.but that is negligible. P4killer_ Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Well yea... Duh hence the area of a.circle stuff obviously it doesnt apply. Lol It's just h x l for a square.. use that for any square sub. Really all you need is one.dim..because the w=h so if a 10 is 10" tall than its 100in of cone vs its round counter part at roughly 77 in of cone Do I.sense.a.troll?
