Speaker wires ran next to power wire

Recommended Posts

Hopefully someone might be able to chime in on this before I run my wires. I know that every system is different and what works for you might not work for me, but...

Should I expect potential problems here? I am running 2 runs of 1/0 cca down the driver's side of my car. I ran my rca down the passenger to avoid noise there. If I run my driver's side door speakers in the same area as my power cables, is there a high potential for noise issues? I am running skyhigh 1/0 cca, and monster 12ga flat speaker wire.

I think I read somewhere about not running speaker wire parallel to your power wire but I have limited options and it seems like I will have to cross the 2 cables at some point no matter what. Thanks for any insight!

I ran my speaker wires down the passenger side of my car, my power wire down the driver side of my car and my rcas down the middle of my car. I dont have and noise or backfeeds in my speakers . I also have stinger ground loop isolators on all my rcas too. Your right about they will cross no matter what i have tried to make is my rcas and my power wire wont but the little bit they cross wont make a difference. Hope this helps man

I have always heard it's better to run the power on one side and RCA + spkr on the other side to reduce motor noise. I haven't actually tested this myself because I just automatically wired mine separate also. I guess as long as the insulation is good around the speaker wire you should be fine. That's why some RCAs have thick jackets

I always did RCA down center to the headunit since its in the center, speaker wires on opposite of the power and ground wires. Haven't had noise yet so far...

how do you get the speaker wires to the oposite door? do you gotta run it all the way around under the dash or somethin?

I mean I understand why not to run them together, it's the same with data wires you can't run secure wires along side non secure wires cuz no matter how much they're insulated there can always be a little bit of waves travel between them and someone might be able to pick up on that and get some secure information.

Thanks I was pretty excited about the alt myself. kind of like a school girl, in a dress, on a swing. lol

It's what I did for my speakers and volt meter.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

ah ok. hmm... I just thought of something... aside from the fact that you would have to put a hole to get the power wires back into the car once they get where they're going, is there any issue really with running the power wire under the car? then there's no worry about not running your speaker wire next to your power wire or even crossing your power wire,

you don't need to run your RCA's on the opposite side as the power wire. You ESPECIALLY don't need to do that with speaker wire either. That is an old (car audio) wives tale. It is more important to have one ground point for everything in your system then anything else (to avoid noise). You should be able to ziptie your RCA to your power wire and not have any problems (if you want to). I normally don't ziptie my rca's to my positive wire but i usually group my power, remote, grounds together and group everything else left over together. I have no problem running any of it on the same side of the car next to each other.

remember, think GROUNDING POINTS if you are worried about noise. :)
