Anything over 14.9 daily will reduce battery life and lead to swelling. Hot batteries charging over 15....bad idea. That's the nice thing about the vcm. Get to a comp bump it to 15.2-15.5 on a burp when everything is cold then turn it down as soon as you finish. Honestly a good daily voltage is 14.4 volts. Batts last longer

Curious, When cold, things peak at a higher voltage, so,........is it safer to turn down the VCM when you are parking for the night so when you start it the next day it's not charging too high? Then when you do start it that next day just turn the VCM up when hot?

Am I off my rocker or doesn't it matter?

Meade charging @15.6 would scare the shit out of me if it was my vehicle.

Kyle, My take on it is this, If XS Power recommends nothing over 14.9 then it's the same rule of thumb as amp companies not rating or recommending amps be dropped below 1 OHM. Can you do it? yea, sure. Do people do it? hell yes. BUT above 14.9 and below 1 OHM both are *at your own risk* IMO.

granted there are lots more variables in the amps being below 1 OHM, but for it it just kind of reminds me of the line between safe and *good luck*

and... ok.. 14.9 it is....

Damnit, ninja'd by the OP himself.

I could be completely wrong but my honest opinion is the same, I would do the 14.9 as XS Power recommends. I try to be safe like that and really don't want to be fucking up expensive batteries, plus the cold charge will be higher?

I feel ya. i also want TOP TIER performance. And, im willing to push it a bit. And NO, the cold charge cant climb over the set point.

They do say, to not be pulling on the system when you set the voltage. Then, it would be apt to over charge. Say i ran full tilt, pulling huge amounts of power, and then set the vcm at the 14.x . Well then it would over charge. Sending "peaks".

But, if you set the vcm, at no load pull, then, it wont OVER charge. Also, 12 default is set at 15.2. It CAN NOT charge over that.

You need to set the dip switches in the rear, if you had 14 or 16 v bats for the unit to go over 15.2.

Know what i mean?
