Joe X Posted April 10, 2013 Report Share Posted April 10, 2013 The stiffness of the sub, the moving mass of the cone also are a deciding factor on how low a sub will play in addition to the enclosure. OP some single 18s can overtake some dual 15s, depending on the quality of the box but also in the subs themselves, for a given cone area the subwoofer with higher excursion will displace more air before bottoming out. But loudness to the ear is not the same as moving air, subjective loudness depends on frequency, you may want to do some research on equal loudness curves.
