Only problem with the rebuild is they don't replace the torque converter. It could be slipping

hmm. ill have to ask. only tranny shop around here that i know of its transmissions plus. most others are little personal shops

Birch is heavier than mdf. Google it if you don't believe me.

Get the trans fixed and put a lower rear gear in it, electric fan, etc and problems solved.

Btw, it is very, very hard to collect reliable fuel mileage data.

If your compression ratio doesn't require 93 (it doesn't), it is a waste and you will get WORSE mileage. It has less energy density, and worse vaporization characteristics. Always use the lowest octane that prevents detonation. 93 also will want more timing which will mean more pumping losses/negative torque. Use the standard, cheap plugs.

yes get a late 80's rebuild the engine. mine got as good or better mileage than my car i think it was around 25-30 mpg. In a 4x4 truck

but seriously listen to the guy above me he knows his stuff

so as of now i will do the trans repair anyways. ill look into a lower gearing. by lower u mean a higher number or a lower number? i think its like 3.73 now. so go up to like 4.10 or down to like 2.xx. am i understanding that right? the fan ill look into a bit more. and the higher octane gas i was gonna do evry few oil changes just run a tank and a can of seafoam through right before a change. the gas i use is atleast 15% ethanol because thats all there is in iowa where we fill up unless i wanna get raped and pay 30 or more cents/gal to get the no ethanol version. so id run down to e fill up with a good tank of like vpower and seafoam it then change oil and go back to normal gas. it seems like a good idea to me to clean everything out but it might not be.

so as i said.

Trans fix

look into gear change ( will it affect my towing? )

look into electric fan

stay with normal gas

and the one ill be working on this summer is

GET A NEWER VEHICLE! i have a few in mind so far that are repo or used vehicles locally.

truck will become the show vehicle and winter/tow truck.

how about plugs? and how often should a tune up be done?

also get a k&n filter. not gonna worry about a cai at this time

get e3,Bosch, or ngk as for changing every 90k miles or once a month just check the plugs to make sure their not gung up and make sure their their nice an clean. and for the air filter do this the same thing that I did to mine

Go to 3.07 or a 2.73. It will suck towing, nut it'll still get it done.

Just get cheap, regular plugs. Grind the ground strap back until it unshrouds the electrode.

Like I said, 1oz of acetone per 10-15gal will help.

It's a 4x4 so re-gearing will cost double. But as you stated, 3.07/3.08 would be great. Had 3.08's in my Silverado, hated them at first but there's something sweet about doing 70 in 2nd gear...and barely turning 2 grand with cruise at 75 in 4th/OD.

So regearing will I just have to do back? Rately sees 4wd but front are cv joints not solid acle if that makes a difference. Rough cost of what it will vost to regear?

And justin can you link to that? That would be perfect to get a second bat up front in airbox spot
