Why people not like strapping amps?

I've been summoned. LOL. Ok guys its like this: if you have 1 bucket that holds 2 gallons, and another bucket that holds 1 gallon, how many buckets do you have? :rofl2: Seriously though, lets consider the following example:

Amplifier 1 can put out 80V and 80Amps (1 ohm load) (80/80=1)

Amplifier 2 can put out 80V and 80Amps (1 ohm load) (80/80=1)

If we "strap" them we now have 160 Volts. We know the maximum current either amplifier can supply is 80Amps. Therefore, if the amps are in series (strapped, bridged, whatever you want to call it) the final load would have to be 2 ohms since 160V/80A = 2 ohms.

So unstrapped we have 80V * 80A = 6400 watts from Amplifier 1, and the same thing for amplifier 2 so 6400 + 6400 = 12,800W.

Strapped we have 160V * 80A = 12,800 Watts.

Same total power, same current thru the coils, same current from each amplifier. Same Same. AMI, I understand what you are saying and agree with you that higher voltage and lower current is always the most efficient way to do something whether it is driving coils or making toast in a toaster. However, as the example shows, when not strapped the coils have 80 amps going through them. When strapped the COIL (two in series = 1 big one) has 80 amps going through it. Same current. Same heat. The equations for heat are amps * amps * impedance. So for two independent coils = 80 * 80 * 1 = 6400. * 2 coils = 12,800. For one big coil = 80 * 80 * 2 = 12,800. Same same

That's the one of the simplest explanations I've ever seen from Tony, and I'm so thankful. I am happy to understand now. The famous Albert Einstein line that is my favorite:

"If you can NOT explain something simply, you don't understand it well enough"

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Well shit Tony D lol you do explain stuff so much better then me :)

Why then in the real world when I clamp the output, the current is different from seperate to strapped?

The math on paper works out to double voltage, same current, just did it like 5 times and was like well shit wtf is going on.... Plus I see a gain from strapped to separate db wise too....

If Tony D has the power at his shop I would gladly drive to his shop which is 3 miles from my house with 2 T20001BD's and a BD sync cable for this test to be done on an AD-1.

Okay had a "light bulb" moment thanks guys on facebook. I am a man so I can admit when I am wrong, had error in my math and testing, My thinking was correct as Tony mentioned he agreed with, just incorrect math and testing on my part.

So my new arguement is how else would you wire 3 subs to 2 amps?

Facepalm moment fawk!!!!
